I’m a novice at buying paint. Am just having my flat redecorates, should I be buying the specific bathroom and kitchen paint for those rooms, or will the paint being used in the other rooms be ok? I’m painting the same colour throughout. Thanks and apologies if this is a very silly question!
I’ve used the bathroom one (Dulux) and it has a very smooth, easy to wash finish. It also hasn’t peeled as it can cope with steamy conditions. A great paint but it does have a bit of a sheen to it which is the only thing I’m not keen on. I’ve never used the kitchen one. I’ve got emulsion in my kitchen which is wipeable but doesn’t take well to scrubbing.
I would certainly use specific bathroom paint in the bathroom.
Our main bathroom tends to get quite damp and when I initially painted it in regular emulsion it soon started deteriorating and even coming off the ceiling.
Having painted it with a bathroom paint (I think it was vinyl based) it’s been (near) perfect for years.
Also because it’s a separate room (usually 😊) it won’t matter much if it’s more ‘shiny’, I feel.
For the kitchen you can probably get away with regular emulsion.
No questions are silly. It's the right way to having things done right.

It's best if you use paints designed for baths and kitchens. Eggshell is the best paint finish for bathrooms while it protects surfaces from moisture. For kitchen walls washable/durable matt is fine, except for splashback which require eggshell finish to protect from grease and fat.
