Skirting board with various floor materials

Hi,

we are doing up our new build and are planning on having light grey floor tiles (kitchen, bathroom, boiler room), "golden" oak coloured floor panels (hallway), as well as light blue wall to wall carpets (bedrooms and living room). Doors and frames are also going to be a "golden" oak look. For now, the walls are going to be white (cheap and easy to change at a later date).

What colour skirting board would you advise? Would you go for oak? Or white? Any other suggestions (not grey, please!)?

I like all my woodwork in brilliant white. I like it’s clean look. I’m not keen on natural wood as it looks a bit dated. Here’s a bit of my living room with white woodwork.

If doors and frames are oak then you need oak skirting. That’s what we have. It’s finished in Monocoat. It’s an apply once application for life. Job done. Never has to be touched again.

Thank you both! Would you advise to do just the one colour/medium throughout the house? My husband seemed to think white or oak would look good everywhere except where the tiled floors are. I don't think it would be a good idea to do 2 different skirting boards though, do you?

    Medium oak all through.
