We had the same issue in our old house. We simply incorporated the chimney breast into the wardrobes. We had very narrow shelves on the chimney wall behind the door, but that’s not even necessary if you don’t want them. In your case the wall to the right could be all shelves and you’d then have plenty of hanging space on the right. We ended up with a very streamlined look and a lot of storage!

What is the height of the ceiling at the tallest point? I think you have many options for possible layouts, I would incorporate the chimney breast so it will be hidden by the wardrobe and could be made to have a door positioned over it, fixed closed or operational depending on its depth from the back wall.

How many long hanging items do you have? for example dresses, overcoats etc. would it fit in the space to the left of the chimney breast?. If not this could be used for shelving and or drawer space. Height wise 2.7 metres is probable adequate that would be wardrobe with a top box. There are some options for pull down hanging rails so you could go higher if you wanted. You could also have the tv positioned so doors could conceal it when not in use and then open up some doors that slide back into a carcass while you are viewing the tv. hope this helps.

Serious vote to not go fitted - that room looks great, some nice features.

Make sure you sort out your stuff and really need floor to ceiling storage in a bedroom before you go there.

IMHO - the focus of a bedroom should be the bed/peace/ etc - not so much optimum/packed in storage.

I don't know your circumstances re storage in the house - so obv. ignore if not relevant.

It is a tricky one as we don’t massively need the storage space right now my but with a second baby on the way and no loft space in the entire house we will most likely need it it in the near future. It's difficult to tell from just one angle of the room.

I think the position of the bed could be changed.

Under bed storage, and a blanket box, are great storage options.

Built in storage, will not enhance the feel of the bedroom, but will make it small and claustrophobic, and the ceiling would appear taller.

Warmer colours, will help to draw the eye.

A subtle shade of pink, could soften the overall look.

A bouquet of freshly cut flowers would look amazing on the chest of drawers.

TV's are generally not good Feng Shui in the bedroom.

If you do go fitted consider drawers for shoes. Like pan drawers in the kitchen. And unless you are incredibly tidy make sure the storage is easy to use. If I had a blanket box I would probably pile stuff on top of it (as well as whatever was in it) then I’d have to move it all to access the box. But I am very untidy. Good luck with the new baby.

I'd go fitted. As others have said, just go across the room so that the chimney breast is hidden. You can put shallow shelves there or something like an ironing board (if you don't already have a good place for that) or step ladders. At one end, if it will work (can't quite see if it will in the photos), remember you can put a mirrored door or mirrored double doors which will break up the length of the fitted units, give the room extra depth and give you a full length mirror. If you think floor to ceiling doors will unbalanced the look of the room, either block in the top bit as in the second photo from Nordikka, or change the colour of the top cupboard doors to match the rest of the room. But avoid cupboards which don't go right to the ceiling as they gather dirt and dust and it's a great temptation to dump stuff there. Very high cupboards can be used for excess stocks of light stuff (think nappies or loo rolls) or things you don't need often (Christmas decorations) or things you need to keep away from small children. Less high shelves which you can reach can be made more accessible by the use of fabric boxes (Ikea) or plastic boxes which you can pull down to access the contents. I second the suggestion that you consider low level drawers (as in kitchens) to avoid rummaging to the back of cupboards though you may want to hide them or some of them behind cupboard doors for a more streamlined look. I'm not so sure about drawers for shoes though, as it may not be the best use of space. My shoes live in a fabric pigeonhole thing which Ikea used to sell with each pigeonhole the perfect size for a pair of shoes, I can see enough of the shoe to know which I am pulling out.

Why not just make a full height built in storage cupboard in the far left alcove and leave the rest? You get the best of both.

If further down the line you want some more bedroom storage, I’d install a built in wardrobe in place of the current one and leave the middle free for a vanity table.

Agree with some others; don't go "fitted" - it's a lovely room; it'll just spoil it, lose the angles and charm. That would be a shame.
