My mum is looking for ideas to update her fireplace/ surround, she is absolutely fed up looking at as she feels it makes the living room look a bit dated. It is a gas fire which never gets used, but it is too much work to remove it completely.
The living room has recently been painted light grey, to match the grey/beige checked curtains my mum has just bought and she is thinking of using mustard accents for cushions, light shades etc.
My mum's initial thought was to paint the fire surround a dark grey but wasn't sure if that would make the living room too grey. She particularly dislikes the floral accents in the surround and wondered if there would be a way to cover these?
She is open to any suggestions to modernise the fireplace.
I have attached below an image of the fireplace and of the curtains.
