Is there a name for this type of arched entry/awning? Is it very costly in comparison to a gabled entry?

Hello Smellysehll,

Thanks for your question. There probably is a particular name to describe this entry design, but unfortunately I do not know it. The style of the house is mainly Arts and Crafts with some splashes of Victorian. The house was built as a stable for a the main house in the late 19th Century and then converted to a house sometime in the mid 20th. We added this entry to the house during the renovation project that we did recently. As to your question about cost, yes, this is much more expensive than a typical gable entry. Typically, anything with a curve is more expensive than straight lines.

Lighting, a mirror and a reflective floor would help with the lighting. Another clever trick would be to open some the space between wall studs for shallow display niches.

The area around is surrounded by Drumlins and low hills, while being near the edges of the River Shannon. The Design proposed follows a wave pattern of low planting of 10cm Box Hedging. These were planted at some 30-40cm apart so as to maximise the line it follows along the plot. In between this low planting, will be grouped Box Spheres ranging in height from 25cm, 30cm and 40cm. These now sit on either side of the low planting hedging. The 60 square meters of the plot is covered in a bright gravel which will allow the hedging and box spheres to be prominent on viewing. The Design allows for additional planting in future years. Hope you like it!
