Bay window options
Hi! I have recently found out me and my partner are expecting 😍 so a very exciting time right now.
We are now looking to increase our storage as much as possible for our baby's arrival.
We have this beautiful bay window, but recently had thought about potentially making it smaller and increasing the floor space?
It's currently 900mmD x 2100L
Also we own the flat but it is leasehold, would we have to ask permission?

6 years agoHi Bethany, congratulations! So are you thinking of lifting off the wide window sill and then knock back the wall to create a proper bay? I’m no expert, but I’m sure you can and as it’s an internal change you may not need to get any permission, especially if you keep the window so not changing the frontage. However, , I would check your lease terms and conditions and also give your local planning dept at the council a call. They will be able to advise you.
If you‘re not allowed to knock it back, maybe the window sill could be turned into a lid for storage? A good builder or carpenter would be able to do that for you.

Comments (9)HI -- gross635 -- Your right to some degree but you can't move the main floor bath to the other side because then that interfers with the floor plan on the second floor. Would not work . I would have loved to turn the whole plan around but it won't work in this case. Added note to what I posted before is to get rid of anywalls you don't need and also not every room has to have a door. Like the one on the lounge and the one at the end of the hall. I would open the lounge up by not having the walls on the entrance hall . As for a closet , there is space in front of the set back powder room for some coat hooks etc. I also question the fact of , if the lounge is really needed. Everything could have been shifted to the front and the kitchen set back , then that would have made a larger dining/familyroom area . But that would have ruined the resale value . So I think moving the bathrooms was the lest and best for this plan. One question I have , is this an English plan ?, because the English love putting doors on every room ?And usually the doors swing the wrong way....See MoreBay Windows - Privacy

Comments (11)This might sound a bit like being on the fence given the advice you've had already... How about a mid to dark grey ( less contrast than black), RAL 7022 is a favourite of mine (warmer grey), or look at a green grey, as something that will have the colour of the olive, with a good amount of contrast against the white render, (you won't have the warm rich colours of the brickwork as in the photos above (which the olive looks good against)). If you are painting the timber windows you would do well to look at microporous opaque stains to reduce your on-going maintenance. Thank you.It sounds hollow... And All the flats seem to have them, so I'm unsure, I can't think of anything that would be hidden in there
I had seen this and did like the look of having it, and have a unit on the back wall of it for the toys.
