Dining table wood doesn’t match - Help!

Hi! I’ve already bought the chair, wooden floor and (some of the) lamps in these pictures. I recently found this beautiful table, but clearly it doesn’t ‘match’. Can the table still work in with the rest of my things?

Why not? I have pine floors and some pine furniture combined with dark oak and walnut. I like it. But to each his/her own.

Thanks, I wasn't sure where the 9'4 measurement came in. If you're buying all new furniture then look for items on legs, as you can see the floor beneath it will make the space feel bigger. You can also use glass ie a glass coffee table or Louis ghost chairs for example. I'd also go for a large mirror over the hearth or not knowing your style could also have a ŵall of glass tiles for the same effect which will also bounce light. I'd go for a pale tone sofa and use warmer/darker colours for cushions if wanted. If you want a rug then I'd keep it in the same tone as the floor else to visually maximise floor space. I've drawn a very rough plan (not entirely to scale and obviously not knowing where doors etc are!). I assume you're wanting to buy furniture before you move in? If so do you have a similar size room where you could cut out paper templates of all furniture to see if the space works? I would mount the tv on the ŵall if you have one. Hanging it over a slim console (or slim cabinet for storage) means you can add art on the ŵall and accessorise the console so the tv doesn't become the feature of the ŵall. You could go for a coffee table or a small footstool which can double up as extra seating and table. I'd go for a round dining table, 3ft will seat 4 and you can pull it away from the corner when entertaining. i'd go for a 2 seater sofa (c5f?) but try and get a slim one. I don't know the size of the windows but blinds, shutters may also be an idea so curtains don't encroach on the floor space? In terms of decor do you want light and neutral or dark and moody then people can suggest paint colours?

Some great advice there! I guess I'm trying to create a comfortable elegant feel/mood to the room. It is a child-free house, so I don't have to worry about little hands marking the fabric, but I do take the point on board - will consider darker fabrics. I do like the eames style chairs, and I will look into them in more detail, although I think I prefer the idea of a soft seat, rather than a hard one. One of my main concerns was in relation to the style/finish of the chair legs.....I love the legs on the table, so I want a chair that will complement the table. Is there any particular style of chair leg I should avoid? Or finish (wooden leg v chrome leg)? Karen: I'd be interested to see which chair you went for! Can you help - matching new bed to some old furniture

My father left me a house in portugal and it has some mahogony furniture although the wardrobes are built in and I cannot remember what kind of wood they are. They look fine. it is quite minimilist and the walls are white which looks good. I was going to buy 2 double beds which were a pine wood frame simple modern design then I thought they would look out of place with the mahogany chest of drawers in one bedroom. The other bedroom only has a small table thing in mahogony which could be removed but I think it would be better to have everything the same not bitty. I have been looking at beds with fabric headboards steel grey or linen and one described as mocha with dark legs. I would like to have something neutral. I love natural wood simple modern design beds but I dont want to get rid of all the beatiful mahagony furniture so I am thinking a neutral colour like linen fabric bed with whte bed linen might look better. I am completely unable to picture it and decide. It is not much to go on but there is an example of mahogony with some of the beds for sale below. I would be very grateful for any suggestions Jill

Have lots of space and am looking for 8 seater min, with perhaps extending to 10. Rectangular or Circular, but think rectangular would work best. Kitchen pic is of showroom, my kitchen is being fitted at the moment. I have wood effect tiles in bleached blonde on the floor and have chosen a very modern over table light. Thanks in advance.
