Comments (4)It seems that the objections of noise can be addressed with sound proofing in the area, and that precautions can be taken to minimize the damage of a possible leak. Why not ask the architect how to address all the concerns and see how much it will cost? This way you are making an informed decision rather not doing it because others think it is crazy. We have one in our kitchen and to address the noise and vibration, we reinforced the floor with a small concrete slab and bought a very quiet model of washer and dryer. And, you can always install an easy shutoff valve to turn off the water if you aren't using the washer. Good luck, and having the washer where you want it is not crazy!...See MoreL shaped Sitting Room/Dining Area Layout Help

Without structural changes, the best option would be to move the desk to the wall beside the double doors or to the wall bounding the kitchen and put a sofa (you may fit a three seater) to the left of the fireplace and buy two nice chairs on double door side of the fireplace. Something like this but without the middle sofa. A big mirror over the fireplace will help bounce light. Longer term, perhaps you should consider opening up the kitchen. You could put storage into that recessed area inside the door....See MoreHelp visualize a living room layout

But if I put it against the shortest wall it could leave it feeling more narrow. How can I balance out the room. Forgive the mess and concrete floors!...See MoreKelly E
