Granite, beautiful or not worth the Money?
Comments (18)ms1zebra, Thanks for your comment and interest! River-rock finished aluminum is a great surface. Its unfinished textured top allows for increased durability for work surfaces. It is resilient with heat, stains, oxidation, but will show signs of use if heavy objects are dropped on or slid across it or cutting is done on it with steel knives. As mainly a lighting manufacturer, we do not heavily promote our tile choices, so we haven't made much of an impact on the tile market. Perhaps when folks think of aluminum as a material, they think about unfinished flat aluminum sheet, which is not a good or even available choice for kitchen surfaces. However, our tumbled finish and thick castings give durability and a great balance between a classic weathered and modern look. Best of all, our aluminum is 100% post consumer recycled, non-mined, locally sourced, made in the USA. We are a Benefit Corporation (B-Corp), triple bottom line company with pioneering experience in sustainable manufacturing. We hope you'll spread the word if you like our product. Comments (2)We have similar dilemma here. My husband likes the cream tiles & although I do like the look of them in a kitchen, I also worry about them being / looking cold if they were through the whole house. Plus it would most likely be me cleaning them every day! So it will be wood floors for us....See MorePolished concrete...No underfloor heating?

Comments (0)I come to the part of my build were I have to make a decision on how to heat it ! So far my spec for insulation in my 2200 sq ft house is .. A larger 150 mm cavity with higher amount of insulation (not sure I think 130mm), walls are going to be dry lined and extra insulation is going into the attic. The Windows are going be tribal glazed with the higher spec of insulation. Under floor heating upstairs and down. Now I've to make a decision on how to heat it !! Have I enough insulation that an oil boiler would be fine or should I go for geothermal or air to heat ? I don't have room for a wood chip burner even though they have become more compact.. I've heard such horror story's of electric bills with the "air to heat" but my house isn't to massive. If anyone has had any experience with these systems can you tell me about them. I did go to a building show and they all sound brilliant but the they are all trying to sell a product! Thank you...See MoreJonathan
