Need help with my Hallway and stairs area

Shoes or backpacks can be dropped inside it. You can get much better lighting from a fixture that has lights to wash the ceiling and to light the floor. What is under your stairs? Do you have room to install some storage there? Pull out stair drawers might work for shoes, and you might add some pull outs under the stairs if they are suited for it. A foyer should serve to introduce you, your style and the decor to be expected in the adjoining rooms. I would key furnishings and paint to what is going on in the rooms left and right of the foyer. Everything I see hanging on the walls is hung too high. The general rule is that the center point of a single piece or a grouping should be 5' above the floor. If the first piece at the bottom of the stairwell is hung at that level, you can use painter's tape to tape the center line all the way up the stairs and arrange pictures above and below the line, with a few centered right on it for a more pleasant arrangement. Not knowing much about the rest of your home or your personal style, I might suggest you paint a soft color like Sherwin WIlliams Sea Salt....See MorePaint over or rip out the fitted wardrobe?
Comments (9)My first instinct was to move it to a garage/basement for good storage but the more I think about it the more I think I'd prime inside and out with Kilz then apply a couple of coats of white semi-gloss (use good quality paint.. Benjamin Moore) in the same white that you'd use for all the trim in your room. Be sure to lightly sand and 'tack rag' between coats. If the handles are removable by all means remove them prior to painting...fill in holes, sand smooth and paint as previous sentence. Set up inside the way you find most functional. Buy nice new knobs ( maybe crystal?) and, if it is as tall as it appears, have crown molding installed to create a custom look. It is probably far better built than anything else you could find....See MoreCan you help - matching new bed to some old furniture
Comments (0)My father left me a house in portugal and it has some mahogony furniture although the wardrobes are built in and I cannot remember what kind of wood they are. They look fine. it is quite minimilist and the walls are white which looks good. I was going to buy 2 double beds which were a pine wood frame simple modern design then I thought they would look out of place with the mahogany chest of drawers in one bedroom. The other bedroom only has a small table thing in mahogony which could be removed but I think it would be better to have everything the same not bitty. I have been looking at beds with fabric headboards steel grey or linen and one described as mocha with dark legs. I would like to have something neutral. I love natural wood simple modern design beds but I dont want to get rid of all the beatiful mahagony furniture so I am thinking a neutral colour like linen fabric bed with whte bed linen might look better. I am completely unable to picture it and decide. It is not much to go on but there is an example of mahogony with some of the beds for sale below. I would be very grateful for any suggestions Jill...See MoreOpen Plan Kitchen & Living Area Advice Please...
Comments (4)A few things I would change from experience...instead of a single and double door I would spend the extra money and put in a bifold corner section...would open up the space so much more. as for the kitchen...completely flip your design...put your breakfast bar closer to the window...make it large and multipurpose with the hob in it and then put your main band of cabinets either left, right or behind? We have recently restructured our existing cabinets to this layout and put in new countertops and it works far better than before!...See MoreJennifer
