How do people clean the limescale on their splashbacks?

We often get asked how to clean limescale marks on splashbacks, which have been accumulated by the steam from a kettle or from a boiling pot of water.

Limescale can be an annoying issue in most parts of the UK, if you suffer from a stubborn build up of limescale in your kitchen, how do you effectively clean it?
