Open Plan Kitchen / Living Room Divider.

Hello Houzz Pros :) Need some design inspiration - I want to create a divide between my kitchen and living room. This is my first Houzz post, so let me know if you need more details! Thank you.

Low backed sofa facing into the sitting area, with a console table or low ish bookcase or sideboard behind it, facing the kitchen (Looks like you have a baby, if so I’d suggest something with storage)

Or do you want a more full height divider?

Thanks @minipie. I am looking for something full length + would like to have some storage (height same as that of kitchen worktop) on the side of the kitchen. On the right side of the kitchen, we have some decent dining space (280cm x 240cm).

I would also like to consider building a wall type divider with a small square window , however not sure how this will look. :/

Thanks for your comments. I think we've decided on wooden flooring throughout the open plan space but it's just what we do in living area. We had wanted carpet to get that warm cosy affect. We are considering under floor heating but I understand that can be expensive. I know we can put a rug down although I'm not sure whether that will have the desired warm and cosy feel. The other option is to fit carpet in a rectangle or circle shape in the living area. Just not sure how that's going to look and how best to join it to the wood so that it looks good. I've not seen open areas with carpet and tiles/wooden flooring...it seems that usually flooring is the same throughout with a rug in the living area. Any suggestions? I attach a plan which shows what it will hopefully look like. The dining table will go near to the patio doors. The sofa will be in an L shape with the back to the kitchen on one side and the other back to the dining area on the other side. Any flooring ideas would be appreciated!

Hi I notice your blind and lamp are Laura Ashley Pelham. Laura Ashley does a duck egg white, pale duck egg and duck egg paint colours. Maybe you could have the duck egg white as the predominant colour and use in both rooms but also use the pale duck egg or duck egg in the lounge, or add some wallpaper. Not sure grey walls would work with the kitchen units. Perhaps more of a taupe/warm grey would work in both spaces though.

Loads of options as you basically have a black canvas. I love a rich teal, or dark turquoise. You could also consider wine or pink, or indeed red, but careful of tones

We're about to buy a property which will need some refurb and I'm currently obsessing with this sort of divide for kitchen and living.

Light travels but not smelly food.

In the second pic you can get some storage and it is probably toddler friendlier since the glass doesn't run from top to bottom.
