Make my room more family friendly
Comments (42)Hi Janis Unfortunately I am not in the Boston area - I live in Ireland! Yes there are red items in 3 of the main rooms, the kitchen, sitting room and tv room (library) - although we have pared those back now and it's not as overwhelming. thanks for all your help everyone, i really feel like it's made a big difference and am excited to finish the tv room and then refresh the play room. do you think I should move the piano to the sitting room? and would the jazz painting work in the tv room? speak later, thanks!...See MoreHelp - first coat on, is it too dark?
Comments (55)Hi Travis and SoYoung - thanks for mentioning the fireplace.....I was thinking that I would keep it simple with a wood shelf over it and a large piece of Art but I now think it might be a bit lost. Would love some ideas as it needs to work with the built-ins which are slightly domineering. Also, Liam_Boyle - agree re the unbalance. The TV will be staying but I have a lovely coffee table and 2 identical sofas coming so I'm hoping to lay out symmetrically in the room. Will keep 1 of the chairs. Hope this will balance up. Thanks....See MoreHi, Does this painting work here and does fireplace need a mantle?
Comments (4)I like the painting, but the wall looks a little top heavy. Paint or tile inside the space behind the fireplace box. It needs to be black so it looks like it takes up that whole space. If you want to do a mantle, just put in a simple white shelf (like a floating shelf) that goes from one bookcase to the other. If you put in a mantle, you can continue the dark color out to fill in the space under the mantle, or add some molding under the mantle on each side of the fireplace & paint it white like in the 2nd picture....See MoreFireplace help please
Comments (11)A guy removed my existing fire place and did the installation. It was fire boarded and sealed around where the stove sits. I had a paint mixed at the local dulux centre "slightly off white" diamond hard acrylic eggshell don't used oil based paint. This was painted inside the chimney before the stove was installed I used a small roller 3/4 coats. Front wall is again from the dulux centre Flat white emulsion. The whole look is very plain but if you like the look, dress the walls with tasteful art and a nice vase or two, It works for me....See MoreSonia
