First Post, so apologies if this is not in the right place or I haven't searched properly..

We need to convert our garage to a self contained unit and effectively decant the white goods and other practical bits and bobs into a yet-to-be-built extension to the north side of our SW facing kitchen, 20ft long and 6ft deep.

It's a late 70s 4 bed detached house and the thing we need to know is whether such a structure needs to be a room fit for living in or whether it can effectively be a well-built lean-to style shed? In any case, we want timber frame construction.
