Formal Living Room

I am repainting this dark walled living room. The floor is beautiful, tan travertine (I think) tile. My decor was very traditional, and I am looking to repaint, lighten for resale. My couch is amber/gold colored. I was thinking about a neutral "Greige", and possibly use a print like the ones shown to tie in the gold couch with the walls and travertine. We are looking to put the house on the market so trying to get the most out of this room. Thoughts on wall colors and any other comments are appreciated. Note that the room has large crown molding at the top that is kind of orangy honey... The couch has been centered under the original vintage/sconces.. Dark picture centered between which would be replaced. Lastly- do I keep or toss the sconces?? Thank you for your input.

The floor is very nice. But, you have the trim to consider, so paint the walls the bottom left chip or whatever is closest to the floor color.

Sconces; replace.

Your couch will work, but it is not going to sell the house.

Just a quick note to thank you all for sharing your thought, ideas, experience and time. Each and every piece was chosen by me in different parts of the world and each one of them has a unique story behind. I am very pleased with my space. I love it! Sounds like you have the opportunity to have a "formal" living room and a family room! Do you have children? If so, a "formal" living room allows you create a space purely for grown-ups. I keep putting formal in quotes because the space can be as formal or relaxed as you want it to be. You can add built-ins to create a library/office feel, or make it a movie screening lounge. If you entertain a lot, a beautiful bar or bar cart is a great vintage throwback for spaces like yours. Into music? This space would be awesome for setting up a record player and displaying albums. The possibilities are endless! Do you mind sharing pictures of the space in question? And maybe sharing a little more about how you/ your family like to spend your free time? Would love to give you some more specific suggestions if you'd like!

We recently put on an extension to our kitchen and although I'm not so much having trouble picking colours for the walls there, I do however find it difficult to match up the dining and living all of which are open plan .. the sofas in the living area are removable covers, one set taupe and the other set white, no problem there but my curtins were expensive and I'm reluctant to change them at the moment so really want something to tie everything together ..they are autumnal in colour ...I'd appreciate some advice on paint colours for the walls they dont have to be the same but would have to tone well together ..Thank you

Since this is for resale, I'd paint the walls a white with warm undertone. Add some artwork with color rather than more beige/white palette. Give your walls some interest, without making the wall color too defining. And definitely change those sconces. Go clean and fresh.

Change out the pillows.....generally the whole house painted one color gives a light airy look....advice to choose a light color from the floor is spot on.
