I am too about to fit a replacement worktop to a kitchen and have done some research.

Laminate worktops are the easiest to fit and work with- also the cheapest. Level of difficulty depends on size, shape, how many cut outs etc you need too. The simplest being a straight worktop with no cut-outs. You just have to get the back edge tight against the wall, which involves translating/scribing a cut line from wall when you've got it in situ.

I would have loved to assist you with your project and since you are lookinh at an inexpensive way, I feel that doing any project cheaply can end up more expensive.
