Whole house color selection

Just wondering where do you start. We are in the process of renovating a kitchen in newly purchased house, the rest of the house will just need fresh paint. The colours we choose for the kitchen will influence the rest of the house.

Thanks for the feedback, we had something similar in mind. Would you suggest bringing the door out to the front? What about the windows either side, we would think about replacing maybe in a different colour, possibly grey, and add some cedar cladding to the house front and paint walls grey. We are also toying with the idea of bring double doors out to the front with arclight over head and then to add coving around the windows with arc that mirrors the arc light to try and soften the whole angular look to to the front. I suggest creating 2 areas in this room, one conversational at the fireplace and the other for TV viewing. Move the TV to either the wall by the curved sofa or the corner where the end table is located in the image. Something larger on the mantel about the size of the firebox opening such as the mirror over the curved sofa. The mirror over the sofa should be lowered to about 6"-8" over the couch if you leave it as is. Select different toss pillows that are textured. Find a shag carpet that is larger and carries multiple beige and brown tones. Consider replacing the coffee and end tables with glass ones or fabric covered stripes. There is nothing wrong with monochromatic you just need to add the texture to make it work. If you are craving color think one color, such as midtone blue, green or red. Use it sparingly and replace any small decor with much larger items.

I think most of the non-pro's who comment on here love interior design so aren't likely to have used a pro tbh but I may well be wrong! I'd have a word with AJ, you can also look at her design dilemma suggestions for others houses if you go onto her profile. alternatively click onto the find pro section and search for designers in London. You can have a look at their galleries, reviews and indicative costs. Or you could just post each room on here and all types of people will provide feedback! The potential downside of this is you may not get a cohesive look, plus it may be time consuming for a whole house. In terms of the hall, white needs light to work and the end looks a little dark although that may just be the pic as my iPad turns even the brightest rooms dark! The tiles also appear more cream than white so maybe a white with a yellow or even a red undertone may work best or a pale, warm neutral. Matt finish walnut will show pretty much everything...the yellow 'doodle hair will show everytime it lands. The good news is everything is so dark you will only see half of the dog hair. A ligher floor in a dark home will have the same effect as a dark floor in a well lit home. You might want to look at a floor that is stained (like white or European Oak) with a mid-tone brown (2 steps lighter than walnut) and you will have your crisp definition between wood and wall AND you will have a floor that is more forgiving with 'doodle curls. And be aware that many people find a matt finishe VERY hard to live with. It shows every hand print, paw print, nose print, "skin" print you can imagine. Skin oils are SHINIER than a matt finish = shows up every time a finger, toe, foot, dog pad hits the floor. Everytime. A satin is easier to live with.
