Painting our whole house

We have just renovated our house, removed walls etc and are now at the exciting stage of choosing colours, furniture and general finishing touches to complete our project. We are have a house with lots of traditional features which we would like to make the most of. Can anyone recommend someone they have used who doesn't cost the earth. This is an example of our hallway...I can upload more pictures if needed. Our home is in North London by the way.

Hello,

Firstly I would suggest you create a moodboard. This will help developing your ideas and save your money too buy not spending on unnecessary items. Think of your favourite style you would like your interior to feature, paste on your board your favourite colours, style, element, texture, etc.

I love the floor you have got, you can add grey, white, cream. I would personally consider yellow, red even blue, but it really depends how you wish to style your interior.

I like the painting, but the wall looks a little top heavy. Paint or tile inside the space behind the fireplace box. It needs to be black so it looks like it takes up that whole space. If you want to do a mantle, just put in a simple white shelf (like a floating shelf) that goes from one bookcase to the other. If you put in a mantle, you can continue the dark color out to fill in the space under the mantle, or add some molding under the mantle on each side of the fireplace & paint it white like in the 2nd picture.

Who would paint redwood???? That's a total sin against the wood gods. Don't waste money on a premium upgraded wood like that if you want paint. Go with cheap paint grade poplar for half the price. And don't do cream paint to walk on unless you want to repaint every 6 months.

Paint the doors black matt and the fames cream add silver crome door furniture. Huge silver mirror above the covered radiator then add a runner of any colour you like and match it with the lamps and lighting. hey presto done.

Hello Houzz Ireland, We are currently renovating a 1960's build - so as you know, there is a lot of decisions to be made!! So it would be nice to get some gems of advice from the experts to help us through this daunting task. Areas where we would really like some inspiration for - small bathroom downstairs. I would really like to do something fun with this room and although small, I think it could work really well with some funky wallpaper or possibly tiles?! I'm just not sure what to do with it. Also - pulling a whole house together?! Where do we start? We have the bigger pieces of furniture but how do I know what nest of tables goes best with a suite? Or what accessories will bring a room together? I'm due a second baby in 2 weeks time so any help at this stage would be so amazing - to guide me on the right interior design path for our new house. We just had our hallway retiled as it had sunk in places so yes would like this to be a key feature. I like the idea of white walls. I'll add some more pictures of other rooms today

I think most of the non-pro's who comment on here love interior design so aren't likely to have used a pro tbh but I may well be wrong! I'd have a word with AJ, you can also look at her design dilemma suggestions for others houses if you go onto her profile. alternatively click onto the find pro section and search for designers in London. You can have a look at their galleries, reviews and indicative costs. Or you could just post each room on here and all types of people will provide feedback! The potential downside of this is you may not get a cohesive look, plus it may be time consuming for a whole house. In terms of the hall, white needs light to work and the end looks a little dark although that may just be the pic as my iPad turns even the brightest rooms dark! The tiles also appear more cream than white so maybe a white with a yellow or even a red undertone may work best or a pale, warm neutral. You could also go for a colour, the floor will stand out whatever
