I have used SW extra white for trim in two houses, and to my eye it's a chameleon. It looks cool next to warm tones and warm next to cool ones. To my eye, it goes well with everything but is definitely not a "soft" white.

I'm not a "white cabinet" person, but if I was, I would probably go for something a little less bright... but then again, if you love bright, you might love how well it goes with everything else.

It's definitely a bright white. I have it for all of my trim. I have it next to a warm beige & it reads a bit cool, but it's nice & crisp. I would be afraid of it being to stark white for cabinets.

Take a look at SW Snowbound. It's not stark white.

Oh, I know there are lots of whites. I was looking at Extra White because that is one of the two whites that Scherrs will paint their cabinets. That's why I wanted to love it. But I don't think I do. :(

We can do any SW color. The cost per Sq/Ft of one of our standard whites is $19.10 while a custom (light) color is $21.70. (Dark colors typically cost more.) For the average kitchen this can amount to around a $400 price difference.

I already weighed in above regarding the Extra White (it was on my previous base & case moulding), but now I'll weigh in on Dover White. It's lovely and warm. I painted all my ceilings in matte Dover White, and all my closets in semi-gloss Dover White. It looks great with everything.

If you're unsure, you may order a sample of one of our painted doors. Our samples come with a credit that can be applied to your job. We don't want you to get stuck with something you won't love.

In your home with the original wood doors, I'd probably embrace a creamy/off white like Dover.

My daughter is in the process of painting her kitchen cabinets. She is using Sherwin Williams Extra White. Her kitchen is a galley with no windows so she wanted a nice bright white cabinets. The recessed lights are LED 3,000K.

Here are a couple shots of her kitchen so you can get an idea of how it looks. Obviously the color may look slightly different in other kitchen settings.

Oh wow, thanks for all the comments. I was just looking into this again and surprise - here is more input! And I also just saw on the Scherr's website about painting any SW color, and that is a relief. I think I will want something in between Extra and Dover. I will be running out to my local SW store before too long. :)

On that note, we've noticed that we sell a lot of Extra White with Dover White being the less-popular option... by a long shot. I'm thinking of starting a thread to see if we shouldn't offer something other than Dover White as our on-hand-and-therefore-more-reasonably-priced option. We definitely want a cool white and a warm white, but we also want to have a small handful of options that people can get excited about. Thoughts?

I think Dover White is more yellow than I want. Perhaps a warm white that is less yellow? I haven't explored the SW options yet so I can't make a specific suggestion, but I bet others can!

I have had Extra White cabinets in my last two kitchens. I like the color. We like bright, crisp white, though.

I am after the same white. All of our trim is Extra White and I think it will just be too white for our cabinets. I have been looking for a white that will blend with the trim since it's near it but not make the cabinets look dirty.

Hahaha - I am just now working on this again! Met with a designer last week, mainly to help me decide on whites. We are looking at Extra White and Pure White, to go with Glacier White Corian. We will likely do eggshell on the walls and then the same color but in semi-gloss for the trim. That way we are staying with one paint color. I need to get off my butt and go get a sample of Pure White to compare with the sample of Extra White I already have. Will keep you updated...

I used Extra White on all ceilings, doors, and trim in a whole house remodel I’m doing. Love it! It looks great with the combination of wall colors I chose throughout the house including Alabaster, Grey Matters, Revel Blue (love!), and Secure Blue.

My sis did Creamy on her walls and Pure a White on all her trim. Very pretty.

I really like Extra White but you can’t go wrong with either!

I'm still debating over Extra White or Pure White for my cabinets! I just can't decide if it will be too stark! I don't like the yellow in whites though.

omg, this thread is almost a year old, and what am I doing? evaluating whites!! ha. a lot has changed since I first posted this. extra white is out, but pure white is in, plus 7 other whites. now testing in sunlight, with warm lights, and with cool lights. depending on the lighting, some have yellow undertones, some gray, some a little "dirty," and one is pinkish. so far, BM Snowfall is winning.

I'm planning to go with Pure White.

I am looking at Snowfall White and Simply White. Gotta get a cabinet sample next.

Commenting on another old thread, hopefully not annoying people but I'm deciding on several paint colors. @Stillpitpat what did you end up going with? I may have to get a sample of Snowfall. Looks "clean" without being stark.

I went with Snowfall White and I love it. This is with 3000k led bulbs. I kind of wanted it brighter/slightly cooler, but the 3500s I tried buzzed, and I was so tired of trying different bulbs (I did a bunch) so I stuck with the 3000s. If you use cooler bulbs, like 3500s, you can get it to a bright neutral white without it looking creamy OR blueish. Just slightly warm. It also goes great with Corian glacier white.

I actually went with Kelly Moore Swiss coffee. Must be Kelly Moore formula. Turned out great. Not too stark. And I had spent days/weeks looking for the right white. Thanks.

Not that this really applies to the OP's question, but I did use SW Extra White for my fascia. I wanted a bit of extra pop to accentuate the roof lines. The roof is a mix of light grey and tan, and I'm doing the siding in a brown SW Palisade.

I have 3 gallons of SW Extra White still - SW only takes returns for 30 days, wish that was a 60 day return window. So now I'm looking for ways to tint this Extra White into a tan color for the garage.

I've been stuck between Extra White and Pure White pergatory for a while haha. Have read every article, seen every video. Have Samplize samples but can't get into the space because it doesn't exist yet. I've seen some models with Pure White and they look yellow/ivory to me but I'm afraid Extra White will be too dead or flat. Everyone seems to love Pure White but I am worried it would be too soft. I want a crisp white but not cold. I am thinking I could always warm it up with lights...... Easier to warm up then cool down. I don't know but I have to decide by tomorrow. I have seen pictures online of both and they both look good but PW looks softer and I do want crisp.

BM Chantilly Lace

I am going to try Sherwin Williams White Snow for cabinets in the Designer Collection in Emerald grade paint to go with Cheviot walls. It only has a very slight bit of yellow as does Pure White but because it is formulated with an Ultrawhite base (Designer Collection whites only) it still looks bright not dingy. Cheviot has just a smidgeon more yellow but not much. White Snow has a 90 LRV and Cheviot has a 89 LRV. Designers say you should normally not put two whites together as one can make the other look dingy but both of these are bright but not stark like Extra White. Unfortunately when I figured all of this out I had already had trim painted Pure White and did not want to redo it. Otherwise I would have done trim in White Snow as well.
