need help for living room

I am doing up a bungalow in wicklow I like comtemporary classic syle There is a very log window and one wall is a glass wall with glass door.Ita a very bright room I like the greys at the moment Have seen a farrow and ball colour called elephants breath and jusy wondrring if it would be too dak There is a chimney breast also that is about 5 ft long It is a bungalow so the ceilings are just average height.What would be a nice fresh colourscheme,I also have to buy curtains,The existing floor is a solid oak wood floor.

Light olive & Dark aubergine combo works well, it fits the contemporary classic style you are suggesting and are natural colours that would suit a room with a lot of window and light. You can still use one of the trending tones (a stone / grey colour) as a secondary colour. Maybe a nice oil on canvas reproduction for your large chimney breast to create a show off piece in the room? Have a look HERE for ideas.

I would suggest you get some large, leafy green plants in large pots and put one on each side of the fireplace. You also might place a large mirror, framed in silvertone metal, on the wall next to the fireplace and behind the large plant I suggested. The green will bring color, life, and air into the room and will contrast with the dark furniture and the light neutral walls.

You'll need to deepen the wall color for the contrast you want. One overhead light is not enough for your dark corner. That is what we call "ambient" light - just a way to turn something on so you don't fall over furniture when entering in the dark. You'll need both accent and task lighting - lamps. Your current furniture is very large and is eating up this small space. Before you replace it with an equally large "suite" consider mixing it up with a pair of chairs and an apartment sized sofa.
