need help with living room decor

i am currently redecorating my living room which is painted in a magnolia color, i have fitted a new cream marble fireplace and will also be replacing old black leather suite with RED leather, my problem is fireplace just does not stand out with current wall colors, fireplace is situated in corner of room which has not got that natural light

You'll need to deepen the wall color for the contrast you want. One overhead light is not enough for your dark corner. That is what we call "ambient" light - just a way to turn something on so you don't fall over furniture when entering in the dark. You'll need both accent and task lighting - lamps. Your current furniture is very large and is eating up this small space. Before you replace it with an equally large "suite" consider mixing it up with a pair of chairs and an apartment sized sofa. Hello CG, you can buy some of these and try them on site. From the pictures you posted I get the feeling you have 2 colors with similar saturation both fighting for attention. It's a little too much. I would keep the green but go softer on the red (i.e rust). You can also let yourself be inspired by the grey/silver/bordeaux floral and stripe pillows to create a brand new color scheme using these colors instead. For example, a very soft gray on the walls, gray carpet, grey/bordeaux combo in the curtains and for the sofa accents, pillows similar to these 2. It's decision time. Go for what speaks to you, but do it with elegance :-)

I think the only place you could put a tv is probably the corner by the window...over the fireplace is probably too high. a walnut floor and new fresher paint colour would be lovely, would you consider painting the skirting boards and fireplace white or off white to modernise them a bit? we've painted the skirting in our living room (also a walnut floor) and it looks so much better than before. (Have yet to get around to the rest of the house!!)
