island kitchen hood

Its been suggested that island hoods are not very successful. Can anyone confirm this?
Im thinking of moving hob to an island approx 5 foot from outside wall.
any advice?

I am planning on creating an island in my kitchen. Size will about 1200mm x 1200mm or 1200mm x 1oo0mm ( with a mini overhang). Ive been advised to put a mini spink in it but Im concerned it will be too small for a sink. Also main sink isn't too far away. I had been thinking about putting a drawer dishwasher on it too but is there any point if I don't put the mini sink in ?

Hi What do you guys think of having a range in the kitchen island? The thing is I want an integrated griddle too and its only available (or I can only afford) on a range. Theres no hob that Im aware of that has an integrated griddle other than the wolf and miele which are very expensive but there are a few affordable range with griddle. Is it bad or unsafe to have a range on a kitchen island?
