Shutters? Color?

Should I add shutters to my home? Should they match the accent siding? Help!?

I think that shutters would look great on your home! It would break up the brick a little bit. As far as color, I think it is a matter of personal preference. However, I would probably either match the shutters with the trim color or select a third color that compliments the existing colors and paint the front door to match (see some examples in the pictures below).

Window shopping and lots of online browsing.! .haven't purchased anything yet!. Just getting house back in order after painting! I have put back the red/winey curtains that I previously had up...convinces me more to go with a neutral colour. The walls are rich Taupe but with a slight grey hue off them so I think the bottom left above actually might work. I have bedding very similar so I took them out and held up and think it would look very nice. Purple isn't a theme in my house (although I do have one bedroom painted purple/lilac) My sitting room is white red black and silver and living/kitchen room is tan and red. I want a rug that wont show up the dirt that much...I live in the country side and have lots of dirty feet coming in so I cant go for any rug that is too light in colour

Hi there, First of all, what a lovely space - the floor tiles are a really gorgeous feature! With these windows, it really is up to you. Shutters are fantastic for creating a clean, uncluttered feel, while, as Colourhappy says, a Roman blind is a great way to add a luxurious feel. Both create a classic look that will never go out of style. Alternatively, as you say, curtains are a gorgeous choice. Floor length curtains would create a real sumptuous look, but you may want to consider how this might block your radiator, especially if you intend to open and close them regularly. I think black, cream and gold is quite a classic combination unless you wanted more colour? Perhaps a side table or low console to the right of the fire but keep the profile lower than the fire. I would change the mirror for a larger one and add something tallish on the LHS, agree re painting skirts, would do these in the ŵall colour though to maximise ŵall height and also paint the door. Perhaps a glass coffee table with a rug under the sofas? I would keep the rug similar in tone to the floor. You could also try arranging cushions either 2/3 on one side with just one on the other to move away from a traditonal look but do bring in the gold and pattern. You could try just a grasscloth on the fire ŵall. I would also add art. If you choose black frames keep the frame fairly thin. Also agree re tv unit.

we have a santa barbara style house in Arizona, it's about 3,000 st ft but tall ceilings.......we need to paint it (three exterior colors; wide/big fascia, body, and big pop outs). the roof is a cement tile sort of sunset/slightly orange sandy light color and the house has three sets of 4 'pipe vents' up high, same color as the tile roof). I am trying to get a......Spanish -ish look; dark brown big fascia, soft/creamy white-ish (but not boldly bright white), and some....color for the popouts toward the bottom. My thoughts are so far: Sherwin Williams 'Rookwood Dark Brown' for fascia (but I'm afraid it has too much 'red' in it??no idea), and S.W. 'Canvas tan' as the body, and S.W. 'Balanced Beige' for the (kind of big pop outs). FRONT DOOR: S.W. 'Iron Ore'. OR: S.W. 'Well-Bred Brown' or 'Plantation Shutters' for the fascia 'Accessible Beige' or 'Shitake' for the body, and 'Tony Taupe' or 'Taupe Tone' OR: because of HOA....... Dunn Edward colors: Metal Fringe for my fascia (which I'm afraid of because it is a bold wide fascia), Barnwood Gray or Pewter Patter for body, and, Fine Grain or Pewter Patter for popouts. and of course....I need to get done asap but I'm having a hard time with the colors. (I don't think the Dunn Edward colors will look right with the rood and pipe vents but not sure if I'll be able to pick the other SW Colors that are more of a warmer/creamier tone.

i do not think the shutters should "match". Do the shutters a shade or two darker than the siding but in the same family and then the door should have contrast whether white, black or a contrasting color.

Agree, single windows only. Make them real shutters as if they could really close.

Don't bother with those board thin shutters that look like bracket [ ] marks. They detract instead of adding.

Shutters on the three single windows on the right wing. I think your single porch post looks poorly positioned and strange next to the black railing. I would want it centered on the wall between the window and door, with a second one on the far right. One looks like a crutch; two well-placed ones look deliberate and designed, not just haphazard.
