under stair space
Comments (4)If it's done smartly, shelves and doors won't necessarily make the space feel closed in. You could have a built-in seating/platform with a couple of shelves above, or all shelves for different functions, maybe a small home office...? Or you could have a slim mirror (in the space between the door and top of stairs, and then just hooks for the little one(s) coats, rucksacks, etc. Or if you want storage, you could have cupboards recessed so they don't close off the front. Or, why not a small fancy bar? :))...See MoreLooking for Ideas for Kitchen/Living Room
Comments (12)Two ideas. Both times I would block up the entrance to the second half of the room to make more usuable space. Both ideas have a island with a dining table attached. Obviously these drawings are not to scale but everything should fit in. I would utilise the kitchen cuboards for utilities- intergrated appliances. If you can dont forget to use the space under your stairs as well. Also use the long wall at the bottom of the stairs for extra storage and alcoves....See Moreneed ideas for my worn wooden staircase
Comments (1)Hello Lorna, Do you want to paint the staircase?... Or put some lovely natural flooring like Jute or Coir but only as a runner would be my suggestion.... and paint the edges white.. I do personally love that look... It's quite traditional but depending on the colour you use can actually be really modern. Or if it's a beautiful wood, then perhaps consider that it could benefit from a varnish or wax.. Without seeing them it's hard to be more definitive as to what to do.. but I like to offer a range of ideas that you might want to consider.. : ))...See MoreHelp, trying to decide whether to enclose a staircase
Comments (3)thanks both & sorry for not getting back sooner. Appreciate it! unfortunately, while lovely, glass panels are going to be too expensive as is upgrading the doors/walls upstairs (realistically we would have to take down all the upstairs walls and start again to make any difference). But thanks. Obviously if we do enclose it will use a glazed door at the base (the rules about the size of landing you need don't seem to be too strict here in Ireland - must have 40 cm from the base step completely free) so we are thinking door at the base of the stairs opening towards the front door. My sister in law however suggests using the entire width between the front door and the stairs as storage, fairly similar to now, but with a door opening out into the kitchen. still thinking. thanks again for your input anyway....See Moregtcircus
