Small sunroom on a terraced town house
Comments (3)I can't tell if this is one residence, or several. I'm assuming this is attached to neighbors on both sides and that it is directly on a quiet lane. I would clean up the planter in front. It looks a little scruffy and lopsided. Some color (flowers or leaf color) would be very nice. Maybe even add color using some pots in the planter, but make sure they all go well together, not every color in the rainbow. Indoors, remember comfort. Sometimes people choose seating that looks really good, but is very uncomfortable. Will you also be having friends over and want to use the space for small, intimate gatherings? Do you think you might eat light meals out there? Furniture choices depend on so many things. A soft cream or seafoam color for the walls, not overwhelming. All that white seems a bit stark and cold from outside. It appears the street and neighbors are very close by, therefore I would stay soft and subtle with any colors so as to not overwhelm or offend the neighbors. What is that stuff on the walls or hanging from the ceiling, I can't tell? It looks haphazard. A sideboard with plants sitting on it is always nice in a sunroom. Ultimately you have to see yourself in the space and how YOU want to enjoy it! Here's how I see myself using the space: A nice comfy chair that I can curl up in. A small side table for my cup of tea. An ottoman so I can stretch my legs out, doubles as a coffee table when I set a tray on it. A sideboard table for plants to sit on, orchids maybe, violets too if the sun is right. A nice throw, because I will sit out there in all weather, read a book, fall asleep sometimes. For you, if you may eat some breakfast out there, a bistro table may be the way to go. We all have to be in touch with what makes us happy. Hopefully you will post your after pictures as well. That would be fun to see!...See MoreHow can I improve the curb appeal here.
Comments (5)Flowers in those flower boxes would be a good start, and then I'd tear out the conctrete or whatever the surface is next to the house and extend the driveway further out, closer to the camera, to make up for lost driveway space. The down spout must be removed from he driveway. The steps up to the house seem to be a confused assembly of different materials and should be reformed into a cohesive entry stairway, with plantings flanking it, or pots of greenery/flowers on it. The garage seems to be a different color from the house and if that is the came, I would change it echo the colors of the house. In the foreground of the photo is an opportunity for some beautiful landscaping. You have your work cut out for you, but nothing that you couldn't do over the next 3 months!...See MoreMoving home for two disabled women
Comments (35)not alot happening at the moment, its winter! alotta rain, lotta. but i am bedding down to get this over with and maybe in the spring the spirits will rise once more. i hope so. i would love to feel i was doing something to keep my hopes and dreams alive, i dont see what i can do until the spring. when i bring the topic up, especially to those that moved away and came down this neck of the woods, they say they had friends who felt it was too far too and moved back home. i guess thats how i feel, thats what i want and i just want to be a bit more uplifted, i think rain dampens down things a bit!!! santa Ma Margaret!...See MoreCurb appeal??!
Comments (14)Gosh, I've returned after a week travelling for work to loads more suggestions - thanks all! To respond specifically: - the house faces south so gets the lovely morning (and in the uk, sometimes the only) sun. - the husband has avoided putting plants in the planters due to maintenance and they're generally twee so comments here have confirmed to me that they will be coming out - love the idea of wooden boxes with the spiky plants and grasses - also like the concept of taking out the grass/bed/tree in front completely out and replacing with slabs - yes to lightening the windows - to the Barn company, I honestly don't mind the advice and I'd never seen sloping garage roofs. - nicking ideas from landscaping of new builds....great idea! - finally, Helen Scholes, I'm embarrassed about the spelling of kerb. Had no idea! Thanks again all....See MoreJayk
