I recently got a new table and chairs for the small eating area of my kitchen. Does anyone have suggestions for artwork over the table? I don't like the paintings I currently have hanging there. The cabinets and blinds are a dark brown. The kitchen is in the back of the house, seperate from any other rooms.
Visit a an arts and crafts fair and look for something big that you like. If you put up something you love it will always look good. The colors are so basic I don't think anything you put up would clash. For now try hanging the art vertically instead of horizontal, or lower it about 12 to 18 inches.
Agree the pendant needs to be lowered. Can the table move to be centered underneath it? It looks like it's crammed against the wall.
Your current art is too high and is the wrong orientation for the space. You need something in portrait format or closer to square for that wall. I'll show you in a few minutes.
The pendant is so high because my husband is very tall. The last pendant we had he would bump his head on as he was getting up from the table. The table is pushed against the wall because that's how we keep it every day to save space. We use the back door a lot (next to the window) so we need space to enter/exit without bumping into things.
I'm a designer with Hoffman and Albers Interiors in Blue Ash. I think what you need is a punch of color and fun. I have some great pieces in my store. I'm going to send you a photo of a piece of art I have in the store that may solve your problem. It has great color and is framed in black which ties in to the finish of your furniture
Cynthia, Thanks! I was also thinking of a black frame to tie into everything else, however the piece of art suggested is not quite my taste. Thanks anyway!
jck910, I have tried the table the other way. I constantly move it around haha! We have a high chair not in this picture that usually sits backing the window so that's the current solution to our small space!
That's fine. I was just going off what it already there. What style do you want to see there. I have all types of art in my showroom. If you are in Cincinnati, You might want to stop by. If I see anything else I'll send it your way.
Wendy--I understand all about not having pendants or chandeliers too low due to my son being almost 6'4! We have to watch that in our house as well. Not everyone understands this! Have you tried Etsy.com for art? I used to have a shop on Etsy and there are some really talented artists!
We have The DeGrezzo™ Print. Art & Photography on Copper, Steel, Brass. Check out www.harveyanddot.com. Stunning and Dramatic. And totally customizable.
A recommendation for the size and orientation and placement of art. I've also lowered the pendant, which makes it even more obvious that the table should be moved. Some curtains wouldn't hurt, either.
I chose three food related pieces of art, but you can hang anything there that you love.
Yeah, I lowered it before I learned that you married Andre the Giant. And I understand why the table is off center now, too. Ya gotta do what works. ;-)
I'm an artist who makes bright collage paintings...I'm not quite sure what you're looking for, but here's a little example of what I do...if you like it, you can see more here on houzz or on my website: www.sabrinajill.com
