Comments (2)Tough question! I'd think about, first, consulting with a lighting design professional before going ahead. There might be a way to run an insulated sleeve from the source point, through the insulation and the sheetrock. Another possibility might be to "gang" or bundle the lights. This would not eliminate the need to open the insulation up but it would cut down on the number of openings you'd need. Finally, if there's no other alternatives for you, use LED surface mounted fixtures. Comments (6)if you're not going to center the dining room table under the light, then I'd tend toward a flush or semi-flush fixture, to de-emphasize the alignment. You might want to remove the medallion from the ceiling too. As for the kitchen it looks like you have decent overall lighting -- maybe you're looking for a couple of pendants over the island? simple glass globes, maybe? here are a few styles to start you out....See Morelight for traditional kitchen
Comments (4)If you get a small flush mount fixture, it should be OK. Another solution would be to get a pendant fixture and swag the chain/cord over to the center of the island. I once had this problem in a client's dining room. We installed a chandelier centered over the table and used a ceiling medallion to hide the off-centered junction box. Does that make sense?...See MoreI need both a comfortable seating and eating area in this one space, h
Comments (17)I understand what you want to do, so here's my suggestion, if it fits.....I'd move the couch under the mirror. Move table to the center of the kitchen, like an island. Sounds like it's two adults and two toddlers, so I'd definitely remove two of those chairs. Are your kids in high-chairs, if so move the other two chairs out too. Basically you want four chairs not six. Move them to a garage, basement or another room. Put the chairs around two or three sides of the table. I'd leave the side near the stove and washing machine(?) open. TV would mount to the right of the back door. See if that would work. Either way, it's going to be a tight space. Post pics please....See MoreRonald Boyd
