Runner or carpet for these stairs??
Comments (5)When I though you meant the carpet was for ground floor I would say no to runner, and leave stairs dark with white risers...but since the carpet is only upstairs on landing I think a runner would be nice visually and since it's expensive you would like to appreciate it / show it more. Wood stairs are just dusty no matter what, I've never had runners but all wood stairs and they are just dusty... i don't know that it will be less work, prob same amount of cleaning. Love the carpet, beautiful....See MoreNeed help with my Hallway and stairs area
Comments (3)Empty out the furniture and fixtures there, including the lamp and ceiling fixture.Use a storage bench instead for a place to sit and remove shoes. Shoes or backpacks can be dropped inside it. You can get much better lighting from a fixture that has lights to wash the ceiling and to light the floor. What is under your stairs? Do you have room to install some storage there? Pull out stair drawers might work for shoes, and you might add some pull outs under the stairs if they are suited for it. A foyer should serve to introduce you, your style and the decor to be expected in the adjoining rooms. I would key furnishings and paint to what is going on in the rooms left and right of the foyer. Everything I see hanging on the walls is hung too high. The general rule is that the center point of a single piece or a grouping should be 5' above the floor. If the first piece at the bottom of the stairwell is hung at that level, you can use painter's tape to tape the center line all the way up the stairs and arrange pictures above and below the line, with a few centered right on it for a more pleasant arrangement. Not knowing much about the rest of your home or your personal style, I might suggest you paint a soft color like Sherwin WIlliams Sea Salt....See Moreto paint or not to paint stairs

Moved in 6 wks ago, stairs is the usual pine and I was thinking of doing the whole off white spindles & step risers, dark walnut stained handrail & step tops going up. I am nervous as my walls are painted a lovely natural cream, the floor is crema marfil high gloss tiles. Started on the skirtings, architraves and doors downstairs in Dulux Satinwood Antique White over the last few days and I am starting to think the white stairs may clash with the cream & antique white...See Moreto paint or not to paint stairs

I am nervous as my walls are painted a lovely natural cream, the floor is crema marfil high gloss tiles. Started on the skirtings, architraves and doors downstairs in Dulux Satinwood Antique White over the last few days and I am starting to think the white stairs may clash with the cream & antique white, should i go the same colour as the skirtings/architraves. Does anyone else have this look and it looks really well (what colours did you use) or do you think I should follow through with just clear varnishing the spindles instead and darker varnish on the handrails and sides. Don't know which would look better??? Thanks for any advice....See MoreNugent Design Build, LLC
