Hi, I'm looking for some advice on self builds. I wouldn't be completing the building work myself, just the finishing touches like painting. I am thinking on building a 2,000 ft sq Dormer Bungalow. I would like to have underfloor heating throughout the ground floor of the Dormer, with a heating system like the air to water heat pump system. I'm not too sure on what else at the moment but good sized rooms for the kitchen and living/sitting room. How much money should I budget for the completion of the structural work? What steps should I make first? Thanks in advance. Joe

We have just had 100mm of screed poured in our new build. Can anyone tell me how long we should expect to wait before it is ready for flooring? We will be tiling our hallway, utility and bathroom. We will lay laminate wood in the other communal areas and carpet in the bedroom. We have underfloor heating too but it will not be connected to electricity for 5 weeks. thanks!

Hi, Has anyone experience of polishing preexisting concrete floors? We have bought a 70s house and ground floor all concrete. In good nick but a couple of large cracks. I would love to polish up all existing floor ( hall/ kitchen/ dining / sitting room and wc) to one uniform finish. We are not installing underfloor heating and will be using gas radiators. Is this doable? Is concrete flooring without underfloor heating too cold? I appreciate any advise, Miriam

We are renovating a small bungalow, the architect marked out where tall vertical radiators should go but my husband is advocating for horizontal traditional radiators as he feels the tall ones provide less heat per surface area and obvious cost benefits! I like the look of the tall ones but are the traditional horizontal ones better overall? We have ruled our underfloor heating so will need the rads!
