polishing old concrete floors

Hi,
Has anyone experience of polishing preexisting concrete floors? We have bought a 70s house and ground floor all concrete. In good nick but a couple of large cracks. I would love to polish up all existing floor ( hall/ kitchen/ dining / sitting room and wc) to one uniform finish. We are not installing underfloor heating and will be using gas radiators. Is this doable? Is concrete flooring without underfloor heating too cold? I appreciate any advise, Miriam
