I think the design of the exterior has real 70s integrity. A bit of paint is all you need. Replace the garage doors with floor to ceiling windows matching the aesthetic the current windows already have. You should check out Cocontest.com for architecture work, or you could try and find an interior architect (there are degree courses in interior architecture these days) I've seen loads of one plan's posts and it would definitely be worth having a chat with them. I also think that you'll get more out of the project if you can educate yourself a little on design. I do my best to do this over on www.houseplanshelper.com

I love the cabin in the woods, its a intimate setting where you are drawn to the outside whilst keeping snug indoors. The use of fabrics sets it apart from the usual cold designs of other modern rooms. The attention detail in the selection of furniture pieces keeps it modern yet functional.

Gold Kitchen Hardware - where to find in Dublin?

Thanks Barry. I will try Showtime for the taps. I've found one shop in Dublin that supplies brass lacquered handles but they tell me they are really not practical or recommended for use in a kitchen as the lacquer will "break down" (they couldn't say how long this would take). I see gold coloured hardware all the time on Houzz though so I think there must surely be a material being used in those handles that is more kitchen friendly..I just cant seem to find any kitchen company that knows more about it. If anyone has experience of "gold coloured/effect" hardware in a kitchen, would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks again

Painting (Around) Picture Frame Mouldings

I've been abroad for 7 years, and I'm slowly moving into an older apartment in Boston. I have to buy all new furniture and decorations, so I'm taking my time to plan out a home I'll really appreciate. I love the picture frame mouldings in my new living room, but there are some features I want to accentuate and others I want to deemphasize. The paint job isn't great, and the walls have a very strange uneven texture with some obvious patching. They're currently eggshell or semigloss, and I want to paint them with a flat or velvet paint. I also want to highlight the mouldings and make it less of a pure white expanse. I'm leaning into the gray that's already there and am gonna attempt bit of an art deco feel with some gold decorations. To that end, I want to paint the walls with a very light grey, and I'd like to see what others think of my options. Real Photos (pardon the camp furniture): I Photoshopped 3 possible ways to paint the white walls: A: paint outside the frames B. paint inside and outside the frames C. paint everything except the top and bottom trim. If it helps, this is where I'm at with my plan in 3D: It's long enough to do a combo living/dining room. I haven't gotten any furniture, yet, so this is just FPO. I'm stuck with one of those wooden boxes with a grate over the radiator by the windows. This is my first post, so thank you for any advice!
