Bathroom remodel - need suggestions

I want to embrace the vintage bathroom tub, sink, and toilet, but modernize the bathroom. We will be putting in a shower with tiles and keeping the window. What color tiles for the shower walls and what kind of flooring would pull it all together? You can even throw in paint colors for the wall for bonus points! :) Modern with a vintage twist is what I'm going for. Thanks!

Comments (21)My understanding: You didn't find any problem functionally, but you feel this looks old & need some brightness & change in this. My advise: 1). Remove towel rod, shift it next to tub or behind closet & have full length mirror, which will make your space double & reflect natural light as well thus makes the space more bright. 2). Get couple of plants (small plants or bush type or creepers which doesn't occupy much space on floor but grows vertically). 3). Get some artifacts made from bright colored glass, can flower vase or wall hangings or glass tiles etc, these can be of yellow or Bright Orange color these are to be hung on walls opp to mirror or pasted(3M tape both side glued) if you are using tiles. 4). Get a mat of same color as artifacts & place between tub & closet. these all are easily done by yourself. Comments (14)Jen, are you sure everything is in proportion? I'm asking, because that store seems to be just a bit wider than a door (so about 1 m) which is fine, but doesn't give much space to manoeuvre inside it. Also, a bit too many doors in a small space, but I'm afraid I can't offer you a remedy for that. You have two wide, massive windows and a door in between, I think that will give plenty of light. Personally, I'd just add skylights or a glass roof. Or a long strip of glass all along What you don't seem to have is ventilation windows. Trust me, you're going to want one in the utility, or at least a good fan. Transom style windows could work too if you can open them. I really wish you'd see an architect... there are lots of different, small things that a professional can spot from miles away that you wouldn't even consider. As a pro I wonder if you could offer your thoughts on a couple of scenarios 1 - Leave bath where it is - what would be involved in moving the shower 4-6 inches to the centre of the bath? I did consider the P shaped bath and will consider your suggestion for a shorter bath to allow room for the toilet, but I currently had to put in a door stop to protect the shower door from the entrance door handle and I would be concerned about a rounded door being even closer. If I left the bath where it is I have a couple of options, turning the toilet and cistern 90 degrees to the adjoining wall - see above for the considerations there, or I have also considered switching the toilet and sink. I would put the sink facing the wall where the cistern currently is have a large-ish vanity from the base of the bath to the wall, and the if the toilet was where the sink is it would not interfere with the doors for the hot press as the seat would be considerably lower than the sink is currently thus giving me the better access I want. In this scenario the main issue for me would be the toilet would be facing the entrance door, a bit unsightly but if it gave me the space I want I think I could live with the compromise. 2 - A bit more involved, but I have also considered moving the bath sideways along the short length of the room, shower end over the space where the cistern is currently and moving the sink and toilet to the space where the bath is currently. I think this would allow me room for a vanity and maybe also a tall storage cupboard for the towels and linens currently in the hot press. The obvious concern with this is the shower spray in the direction of the hot press, if I got the storage I needed elsewhere in the bathroom I wouldn't be concerned about those getting wet, but would want to ensure I don't end up with a leak over the stairs. Access would also be an issue if repairs were required for the shower pump or the hot water system. You would have to step into the bath to gain access.
