Kitchen wall dilemma

Getting ready to remodel the kitchen. We have a large wall that leads to our dining room, that we would like to take half of the top Wolof and make a breakfast bar. Not sure if we should go all the way up to the ceiling, or leave the header that is already existing in the doorway and go all the way across that way. We are in the demo process as we speak, and will be hiring professionals eventually, but not sure if when we demo if we should take the ball all the way up to the ceiling or leave the header. What do you think? Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated.

Be careful how far you go... are you thinking of cutting doorway higher than it is? of course wider, but higher? I don't see the purpose in it as of now...

will you have any pendant lights hanging/ or ?

We've had advice to go all the way to the ceiling to open the room up. We're cutting half the wall open by the door, to make a breakfast bar, and the stove will be against that wall at the kitchen height- so having the header would serve to hide the ventilation from the stove right? That's what I keep thinking!

Hi What do you guys think of having a range in the kitchen island? The thing is I want an integrated griddle too and its only available (or I can only afford) on a range. Theres no hob that Im aware of that has an integrated griddle other than the wolf and miele which are very expensive but there are a few affordable range with griddle. Is it bad or unsafe to have a range on a kitchen island? We're in the process of planning a renovation of a 1980's bungalow and we're starting with the kitchen - how practical is it to use laminate flooring with spillage etc. Our kitchen worktops will be painted mussel and the island airforce blue with a white quartz worktop and we thought a wooden floor would be a nice contrast. Would appreciate any advice particularly from anyone who has a wooden floor. Thanks!

Layout dilemma/ possible kitchen extension or remodel

Hi, advice gratefully received. Love our new house, but the ground floor layout is not great. Long narrow kitchen facing east, garden is big so scope to extend. As it stands you come in from the hall into the lounge to get to the kitchen. I would like to have some separation so that the lounge can be closed when desired. Perhaps some double doors? I was thinking to use a chunk of the lounge and knock through into the kitchen which would also allow more light. Lounge is lovely and light, kitchen is dark after lunch. Ideal solution would be a side extension, but drains and pipes in the way so worried about the cost.. Would only require about a metre wide along the actual kitchen which I would then face towards the garden and create a sitting area. Any ideas welcome P.S. Conservatory is a junk room at the moment, facing a fence on the right hand side. The garage is used as a utility.

I would not remove anything unless you are sure it is a not supporting element

Removing the sheet rock will probably be enough to determine how much you want to be removed in the final plan...

This will also reveal any electrical,plumbing, etc. that will come into play or be an issue as you go forward

It costs a bunch to replace a header. Remove everything you can and see if it's open enough for your. The larger the better, though.

If the wall isn't bearing then I recommend taking it to the ceiling. Anytime you renovate a space you want it to look like you always had it that way. Leaving the header will look like you did your renovation halfway. Give it that completely open flow. You won't be sorry. Hope this helps.

Make it look purposeful if this is possible with great lighting brought through to hang over bar??
