Need help for my kitchen!

Hi, Would appreciate any feedback. I am currently trying to do something with my kitchen
1. Was thinking of opening up my kitchen and sitting room into one area
2. Also thinking of painting my kitchen cream (any other colour ideas would be great) to brighten up the kitchen a bit - it gets lots of light.
The sitting room gets light in the morning and the kitchen in the evening. So i am thinking if I open it up there would be light all day long.
3. I also was thinking of putting different floor in the kitchen but for it to run right through to the sitting room if I do open it up. I have uploaded pictures of the kitchen, the wall I hope to break through, the sitting room area and fireplace (i will putting a stove in too).

Hi. Your kitchen to me looks large, certainly big enough for a table and maybe some seating (from what I can see in the pic anyway!). I personally wouldn't knock through unless rooms were small and needed space for furniture. I cook a lot and would hate the smell travelling, the noise and the mess etc. if the house has 2 living areas it's also nice for family members to have their own space at times. That's just my opinion though and what works for me and not you! ! Have you looked at pics where people have done the same thing with similar size rooms? Or is there anyone in the road with a similar house? Re paint, are you painting the units or just the walls? I would probably change the kitchen floor regardless if you knock through as its absorbing some of the light.

Well, you could certainly provide some counter height stools without adding onto the counter. I would make the stools simple ones that don't call attention to themselves. Look at how the ones below are there to be sat upon but there's no overhang. The height you will need is called a counter stool. Or you have space for 2 at each end of the island with just a big of an overhang. People just like a place to perch while they chat with you while you're cooking. White stools would blend right into the island and be inconspicuous.

Get some test pots and try a larger sample of colours you like vertically against it (to represent the wall).

My kitchen (a second small one) in a Georgian house has old terracota tiles 6 inch square, which I have recently had polished and want to keep. The area is approx 12 ft square with 10 ft high ceilings. There is a large Georgian window on two of the walls, with an entrance door on the the third wall and a fireplace on the fourth wall, into which I have managed to put a cooker, with two built in cupboards either side of it. I need a sink, integrated washing machine, integrated dishwasher. The walll with the door is plumbed for water, but it could also go on the adjoining wall under the window ?? Please any ideas would help, also colour scheme. I am normally good at this but the dimension, ceiling height, tiles have thrown me a bit on this one ! Appreciate your suggestions. Thank you so much

What a lovely sized kitchen! This room will look transformed with a lick of paint on those kitchen doors. A light greyish green colour could be a nice colour alternative for cream. If you already have a dining area and don't need a table in your kitchen a kitchen island with bar stools would bring this room together nicely.

Looks like you have light and good sized rooms. I agree that knocking through isn't ideal if you have a family/kids, it is noisy and smelly. You could add doors if room? But a big kitchen table and comfy bench seating (with back and cushions) could make it very welcoming.
I agree with pale grey or green for the units, depends if you want to keep the floor.
I would change the blind for a roman blind fixed above the window to update things.
Is there room for a dresser or storage as you look like you may need more than there is...

Sorry just realised the stuff on the floor was rubbish/bin bags not things needing a home...

I have cleared the room out for painting so I have table and chairs to go into and a few other bits. I am changing the floor definetly I don't like it. Was thinking wooden flooring.

Wooden flooring would look good, is classic really. esp if you paint the units.
