How easy are they to maintain? Do they scratch/stain very easily? I love the look but all I seem to read is bad news about the fact they stain and mark so easily.
I was going to pose the same question, in Italy everywhere has marble worktops and they look great. Getting quotes from stone fabricators they often try and steer you on to granite or quartz (which are usually more expensive) because marble is "porous and stains". However if you seal it and look after it it should be fine - this blog shows the effects of staining on supposedly fragile marble - http://petchhouse.blogspot.co.uk/2006/03/sealing-marble-acid-test.html be sure to read through and look at th post for the next day - it shows test results for leaving red wine, tomatoe paste and lime juice on sealed and unsealed marble for 10mins, 1hr, 3hrs and overnight.
