My dining room is navy, my dining room furniture is chestnut - we used a designer but I feel lead down the wrong path and am very unhappy with all of the beige and brown that is in my home. The dining room was painted navy to match the living room navy furniture. My dining room is dark and I'd like to lighten it up & be the same color as my bedroom which is SW Magnetic Gray (has some blue undertones). Will this look okay? I'm nervous to put gray right next to beige which is what the rest of my house is painted. I also have ivory trim, not white. Any advice would be appreciated!
It depends on the colors. Get a poster board or small piece of sheet rock [sold in the paint section of big box stores] to paint your gray color. Take and put it next to your beige wall and see what you think of them together. If you like how they look together, go for it. If you don't, keep looking. And keep in mind that the light in a room determines how a color looks.
Thank you ladies! Im starting to think I want to change the whole house to an abalone color or gray/beige and just get rid of the warm tones all together - its very Tan and seeing as how we purchased all dark furnishings just a year ago, I think the paint would be a cheaper update. My husbands going to be thrilled.
Gray is a wonderful neutral, but has many variations. Try a gray that has less yellow in the actual paint formula. One of my favorites is Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter. It works with almost any decor and color scheme. I have used this color many times over the years to bring cohesion to homes that had different colors in rooms that could be seen from each other. Another favorite fan deck is the Candice Olson collection at Benjamin Moore. She has several neutral grays that may work.
