Replacement Windows

Has anyone used The American Sash Window Company before? Their products certainly look great on their website www.theamericansashwindowco.com and I was wondering if anyone has any experience with them?

I could not find any reviews on internet. Find customers in your area who have used them.

They are based in New Jersey and Pannsylvania. Has anyone in these areas installed their windows?

This might sound a bit like being on the fence given the advice you've had already... How about a mid to dark grey ( less contrast than black), RAL 7022 is a favourite of mine (warmer grey), or look at a green grey, as something that will have the colour of the olive, with a good amount of contrast against the white render, (you won't have the warm rich colours of the brickwork as in the photos above (which the olive looks good against)). If you are painting the timber windows you would do well to look at microporous opaque stains to reduce your on-going maintenance. A benefit of aluclad composite windows is colour outside can be factory supplied different to the interior finish. Hope this might help. Regards, Nick

I think it might work better to have blinds on the wall with the smaller windows (perhaps in a plain colour) and have curtains on the main stretch of windows, using the existing curtains to replace the small roman blinds. This would allow the fantastic view to be the main focus. I do think plain curtains would work well here but you perhaps aren't keen to change them as they are new? Could they be used elsewhere? I also agree re moving the sofas so they aren't at angles, it looks a bit strange. Maybe try them in a u shape around the fire. And perhaps painting the door frame white might make the room feel calmer. Where did you find your lovely footstool btw?

We have recently moved into our new house which is a 1970's semi. We want to do a bit of work on it, the biggest job would be in the kitchen which we want to completely update and replace the window with doors. We would like advice on how to tie the various bits we want done in the house together and also take advice on whether or not we would benefit from more structural work. I've spoken to one architect who said the budget is too small for them which now makes me feel embarrassed to contact anyone else! He advised we use an interior designer but I have no leads or recommendations so now I don't know which way to turn. We really want to get it right so what should we do???

We are in a bit of a dilemma... We wanted to buy the place we are currently renting but at the same time it has a lot of issues. We also have a plot of land which we could build, againt there are several issues. Buy the house we are currently renting. It's a large 5 double beds, 2 bathrooms house. Not energy efficient as the gas/elec cost of running the house is high. Pro: 360 degree view, 180 of the sea/beach view and the other is 180 of mountain view 4 acres of flat land on the hill The house is already there so there's no time wasted to build. Con: Roof needs to be replaced Plumbing needs to be replaced Heating system needs to be replaced Rewiring Windows need to be replaced The quality of the house was poorly built NB: All the Con points can be addressed within the next 5 years Build a 3 bed, 2 bath house. Pro: It will be built to our spec It will be energy efficient The house will be smaller The plot of land belongs to us so its free Cost of running the house will hopefully be less than our current place Con: There is only about 1.5 acre of land It will be built onto a hill so will need to cut into the mountain as its on a slope There's only 180 degree view of mountain and a little bit of the sea as we are further away It will take a year or 2 to build The road leading up to it is a private road so will need to pave the road every 5 years which will cost us money (there are no other houses there so can't share the cost). We will be less reluctant to sell if we wanted to in the future as it is on family land We have a very young toddler and a baby, so its not a project we can waste time or money. The cost to purchase the 4 acres land house will cost almost the same as to build the 1.5 acre land house. What would should we do? In an ideal world and if we can afford, we would prefer buying the house with the 4 acres of land, knock down the house to the ground and build from scratch. But we don't have the money to do that AND if we did, the house/land won't be worth what we would have invested in if we were to sell it in the future.
