I live in a very wet and windy place during the winter. I have a decent sized deck but it has a large drop beneath it. Does anyone have suggestion for furniture/decor/pots that can withstand the bad weather and not rot the wood? More suggestions would be great if they were inexpensive second hand or simple DIY.

If it's a drop underneath that's about 1m then perhaps a lowered seating area might be better for keeping you out of the wind ? If you have a gravel or stone floor in that section - and enough space - then a kadai fire bowl in the middle will keep you cosy too ?
Look out for second hand boat cushions for weather proof seating. Or make your own using foam and oilcloth . Then add floki rugs or thick throws or sheep /deer/reindeer hides to sit on ...
A photo and some measurements might help ?!

I really think it's the plants that are supposed to be the center of attraction so I have a hard time thinking of anything better than painting the wall gray and the planters charcoal. However, trying to keep an open mind I did locate the photo above with yellow planters, which would be pretty against a gray wall. But looking at your very lovely blue door, I could see repeating that very same color on the planters and leaving the wall gray. It's always a good thing to repeat an existing color when it looks as great as that one does. That blue would be dynamite on a planter filled with green plants and colorful blooms.

Flowers in those flower boxes would be a good start, and then I'd tear out the conctrete or whatever the surface is next to the house and extend the driveway further out, closer to the camera, to make up for lost driveway space. The down spout must be removed from he driveway. The steps up to the house seem to be a confused assembly of different materials and should be reformed into a cohesive entry stairway, with plantings flanking it, or pots of greenery/flowers on it. The garage seems to be a different color from the house and if that is the came, I would change it echo the colors of the house. In the foreground of the photo is an opportunity for some beautiful landscaping. You have your work cut out for you, but nothing that you couldn't do over the next 3 months!

I would follow the curving line of the lovely brick sett edging to the beds and have the same brick edging whatever flag stone you choose . This way you can continue the lovely curve and have your patio wider/ deeper on whichever side you choose to have the table and bbq. Grass the rest...I 'very just seen the date on this question. You'very probably done it by now, lol

' Decking design and new entrance'

We have been living here 2 years and desperately want to complete our home. We want to match a new extension onto the existing property. To the front on the left we want a single storey extension. This will have decking coming out of the patio doors , which will have a glass border and there will be sapce underneath for a an apartment. The idea is to wrap the decking to make our new entrance so that we can get rid of our ugly steps up to the house. Our question is how we match the look of the house with appropriate materials/glass/stone...? We are open to a very modern look and would appreciate to get some feedback. If anyone has done somthing similar we would love to see pictures.
