Help design my country/vintage/modern idk what it is kitchen!

okay, here is my kitchen. Just had the granite installed yesterday and will be installing white subway tile back splash. i am looking for a soft, predominately white kitchen with a country/vintage feel and a few hints of modern whimsy. I dont think i like the red stuff going on, it seems jarring to me so i think i want to paint the red stuff a gray/blue.

Comments (13)This is going to almost have to be an eclectic mix...which can work. I would cover the glass doors with curtains or roll-up shades/blinds for sure, on the living room side. Could be sheer or gauze type material. Or even roman shades in a patterned fabric. I would then find a very large ornate mirror to go over the fireplace. You could either distress one yourself, or probably find one that is already distressed. To be quite honest, the wallpaper you have on the fireplace wall looks like it could work as is. Not exactly sure what the color is...(bad computer monitor). Get one or two overstuffed slipcovered chairs with skirts. Get some throw pillows that are in the same color range as those to use on leather couch. Maybe a thick floral rug and one of those industrial bin carts for a coffee table. Comments (20)Kitchen cabinets will look fantastic painted. The thing to consider when thinking about worktops is the work black granite creates - they show every little watermark, so need a lot of polishing. I discovered this when doing lots of experiments on granite samples! Other thing to bear in mind is granite is porous, so you have to be careful about staining the lighter coloured worktops and granite requires resealing after a few years. Because I'm quite lazy and didn't want any maintenance, plus we are a messy family, I went with Compac Quartz in white mirror, it's practically bomb proof and I haven't managed to stain it yet (3 years on). Comments (16)Personally, I would rather not have the space between ceiling and tall units - would take units right up to ceiling. Something just doesn't sit right with me with regard to spacing- in particular the very small space to the left of the hob. Like others I feel there are too many colours and would have had the island in a grey - but I love the colours of the walls. I like the shelf - but not pushed in the corner like that!! One of the first things that caught my eye was the different colours of door and window frames in the house- I would have kept them all the same.... Not going to mention the stools!!!! I love the rounded units and would have opted to have rounded edges on the island to be in keeping, personally. Finally, this all sounds rather picky but we all know it is down to personal taste and overall it looks very nice. 9 years agoOkay Toats, I have a question?....I was going to wrap it in plastic and ship it in the cut down IKEA box, but I'm debating the plastic because of condensation. And it being freshly oiled. It's cold here of course, but it may be going from warm to cold and back. Do you think just in the box will be okay....better without the plastic? I'm thinking...yes. I'm wrapping it now. :) One more tease.....ha!

But ....THANK YOU....duck and the dishcloths came and I absolutely LOVE them. I gave you a review on my kitchen post. I hope you don't mind, I gave out your shop info. The cloths are great, I'm not sure I want to use them...they feel so nice. :) And duck....forgedaboudit!....he is TERRIFIC! 8 years agoYou can keep the bold accent colors, but in this home we went with soft white cabinets, with a soapstone colored counter-top and went with the blue island with gray walls and white trim..This works well when you have one mass of a popped color like the island..
