“Drapery Guys worked hard to help us choose the right hardware and drapery for our sliding glass door. The fabric was the color and weight we wanted, letting in filtered light during the day and providing privacy at night. “After nearly finishing a 6 month remodel I was stuck on window treatments and completely overwhelmed by the myriad of options and costs. We tried to work with a local company and that overwhelmed me even more with their crazy high Hunter Douglas prices and poor service. Direct online purchases felt too risky. Smith and Noble saved us right in the middle. We worked with Jeanette Barillas in Marin and she came in and was so efficient and professional. Within two hours we had picked and made every decision on our 4 rooms. She has an eye for design, gives you great advice, and guides you through the process. When choosing curtains, consider their function, whether for privacy, light blocking, or decor enhancement. Take into account the room’s style, choosing curtains that complement the overall decor in terms of colour, pattern, and fabric texture. Measure the window accurately to ensure the curtains are the right size and length, considering whether you prefer floor-length or sill-length curtains. Select curtain fabrics based on light-blocking abilities, durability, and ease of cleaning.
In general, your curtains width should be double the width of your windows. For length, this depends on if you want floor length, sill length curtains or below sill. For sill length curtains, they should sit 1cm above the windowsill. Below length curtains generally sit around 15cm under the sill. For floor length curtains, ensure there is at least a 1cm gap between them and the floor. If your window has a radiator underneath it, the curtains should stop around 2-3cm above the radiator to avoid heat being absorbed by the curtain.
Simply measure from where you want your blinds to start (the rail), to where you want your blinds to finish. Add 10-15 cms to this to prevent light bleed. To ensure your blinds fit correctly, take measurements at 3 equal points across your window and use the longest size.
