“Mr. Gradin helped us design two additions to our home. Both seamlessly integrate with the original design, but I was impressed with his creativity in seeing new ways to utilize space in an elegant and tasteful manner. He brought up important considerations and implications to our original self-designed plans that made it apparent that his expertise was saving us thousands of dollars and much wasted time (!). As well as being a creative designer sensitive to the project's location and specific needs, Mr. Gradin seems very knowledgeable about environmentally friendly materials, and I appreciate that he recommended products I didn't know about that were better for our world. In short, I'd highly recommend Mr. Gradin to anyone who wishes to have his considerable talent focused on developing abstract architectural ideas into an elegant and practical building.”

“I interviewed a number of architects and talked to a couple of references before selecting David Ferrin and Arketype Architects for my rather different project, that of building a two story home on top of an existing stone warehouse, providing three floors plus roof-deck in a tight urban setting. Before I selected him, I was impressed with his "can-do" attitude and examples of some of his thinking outside-the-box. The design work I saw was classy and much of it different. His use of materials tends towards the green but when price becomes an issue, he will demur or come up with an alternative. David is quietly spoken and his demeanor is thoughtful, low-key and confident. The project is still 12 months away from completion (I'm writing this in May 2015 ) so it isn't possible to give you final comment but to this point I have been VERY happy with his work. He is quick to effect changes and is very thorough with his plans, attention to detail (according to several other architects and planners) being well above what is normally produced. I swear this attention to detail is what allowed our plans to get through to permitting in so few hearings.”

“We finished construction on our new home in Montecito in 2009 and have been clients of Designs and Decorative Arts ever since. Lesley and her team initially did a very efficient design installation using primarily our old furniture with updated upholstery and accessories. Over the five years since that "move-in" design work - they have gradually upgraded each of our rooms and have just completed a re-do which we are really thrilled about. We have especially appreciated how they got to know our tastes and preferences and didn't impose a design concept. My husband will always be grateful for finding the perfect, comfortable lounge chair and I for how unlike a LazyBoy it looks. We have referred our friends to Designs and Decorative Arts and they have been as pleased and satisfied as we are even though the style of their decor is very different. I would recommend D&DA without any reservations.”

“Chris Hoover was the contractor on a very involved restoration of my 1915 Oriental Craftsman, as well as a mid century ranch house. He oversaw many complex projects with tradespeople, is a great framer, and a meticulous finish carpenter. Chris is organized and trustworthy. Big job, or small, Chris will do an excellent job.”
