“What makes a good architect? Rather a long list of attributes: a desire to understand the client; a depth of knowledge in how one's wishes might be fulfilled; a willingness to consider details of structure and finish; an awareness of costs; lots of hard work in planning and refining the design; on-site supervision of what is built. Through all of these stages of a project, there needs to be a continued passion for the eventual quality of life inside that bedroom, bathroom, studio, patio, entry.... And I might add a willingness to restrain the client from making decisions that will later be regretted - a well cultivated sense of what is good design - and what is not. In that regard, pretty much what one wants from a physician (which I happen to be). In all of this, I can hardly imagine being better served than we have been. We have no hesitation to recommend Patrick A. DuBuisson.”

The first unusual feature of Ms. Powell's service was the fact that she actually listened to me. She provided ample drawings and suggestions to maximize our budget while giving me the direction to make the renovation a success. Although our budget was modest, we received the professional attention that a large developer might expect. This isn't a huge town, so I know several people who have used Powell Architecture for home plans and commercial projects. Everyone with whom I've spoken has had very similar experiences with this firm. “My husband and I bought land and decided to hire a designer for our home. My cousin recommended Guy Land because he designed many of the homes in her community as well her own home. She was very pleased with him and the results, so we went with him. I was a little concerned about the distance, (his home office is in Tennessee and we are in the Houston area) but he was able to put that to rest after talking with him on the phone. We basically started from scratch with conversations over the phone and he drew up some rough drafts that he sent via email. He always welcomed our ideas and criticisms and made the changes we requested with a few tweaks to include his own designs. He seemed to know what we wanted, without us really knowing what we wanted. It wasn't after we saw it on paper, that we realized that. Our project took about a year to finalize a plan, due to decision and indecision changes, but he never seemed put out or tired of us. We are in our home, finally, after a year of construction and LOVE it!! Wouldn't change a thing!!”
