The functionality of this work space was something the homeowners did not want to change with their remodel. They wanted an updated, clean look with more storage, while keeping their work flow the same. Their designer, Dondi, worked closely with them to achieve the desired feel for the space. The desk and soffits were removed to add more storage. The cabinets above the peninsula, looking into the dining room, were replaced with a combination of decorative shelves and glass cabinets for display purposes.

For this residential project, we decided to use of the trending and elegant grey colour because it provides the perfect canvas for just about any style. By using wallpapers, laminate and textured paint, we gave a contemporary twist to the traditional idea. While keeping white as a base colour to give the house an airy vibe, we have also used colours from the warm colour palette to enhance the space’s comfy aura. A space-saving L shaped sofa in grey is paired with colour popping tones of blue and yellow to amplify the contrast effect. The main highlight in the living room is the mural work on the wall where the TV is placed. In the L-shaped kitchen, we have utilised all the available space in an optimal fashion by fitting in the limited space numerous features like a unit to a dedicated built-in space for appliances and enough over-head storage. Sliding doors are a great solution as you don’t need the clearance area after leaving the doors open. We have included them in the design to avoid space wastage. Though the bed in Master bedroom is simple in design, the motif patterned wallpaper gives a room a royal look while complementing the overall colour scheme.

Mr. Sachin Desai’s house is a residential project in Baner which had to be designed on the specific guidelines of the fusion of Indian and contemporary concepts. To emphasise the Indian ethos yet give it a contemporary feel, wood was predominantly used throughout the décor. The carvings, figurines, and the designs all matched up the client’s requirement of the apartment with an Indian feel. Lighter tones and colours have been used to contrast with the dark colour of the wood and give the area a spacious vibe. The spaces have been utilised in a resourceful manner to provide the client with ample storage and seating space. The bedrooms too have been kept simple yet elegant and have been designed on the concept of minimalism. The end result was that of a well-balanced, clutter-free, modern interior with a traditional Indian look and feel.
