California Waterscapes
Welcome to our design space at the Pasadena Showcase House of Design. This “oasis” features a beautiful collection of koi fish, gracefully swimming in a 5’x8’ pond.
Our modern, clean-cut paver patio is customized to intertwine with large seating boulders. By bringing the pathway right to the edge of the pond, we showcase our favorite cantilever effect. Softening the design, California-friendly plants and a stunning live plant wall surrounds the area, while lights can be seen hanging from the trees, extending the ambiance into the evening hours.

Ponderiffic Adventures
This Koi Pond was built in Cherry Valley for a customer who wanted a medium sized pond to raise Koi. The project features a nice deck, waterfall, small stream and a 14 ft by 18 ft pond that is 4 ft deep. No, that is not a real alligator in the pond.

Asian inspired setting with a dry river bed snaking through this side garden. A central bridge and a path made of natural stone steppers run right through the middle of the dry stone bed. Shade tolerant plants provide texture, color and visual interest.
The Japanese Garden
This zen garden is located on a central courtyard that connects the kitchen of the house, with the living - dining area and main access hall.
As you can see it is glazed on several sides, each view after concluded the work is slightly different. This time, only put a lamp in Japanese style to give the night lighting environment.
This is a sample of a Zen garden that carries an implicit minimalist in design. The conditions in the house are basically clear and minimalist tones, it is for that reason that it was decided to this design.
Few elements, well distributed, with a mix of different textures, from coarse gravel and dark gray color, contrasting with the white gravel and raked; allows us to balance the wabi sabi and the scene.

Zones Landscaping Auckland Central Kate Ryan
Surrounding a stunning black and white-clad multi-storey weatherboard home in Auckland’s Remuera was a
garden that was somewhat lacking in vigour. It consisted of planting, some larger trees, and a lack of flow,
character or consistency. So when the clients, a retired couple, decided to rejuvenate their tired outdoor space,
they approached Zones Landscaping specialist Kate Ryan. Kate’s brief was to create something stunning and
vibrant with a tropical resort feel. Set against the striking black and white exterior of this home, the planting
needed to be bold yet considered to have the desired effect. Bursts of colour throughout the planting help to
tie the overall scheme together and create the striking element sought in the original brief. “We used a lot of sub-tropical plants – birds of paradise for the orange colour, giant bromeliad for their rusty red colour, and lots of greens and yellows as well as rain lilies, which
when in flower will create a blanket of white.” The house is located down a long, shared driveway so importance
was placed on creating character at the main pedestrian entranceway to the home.
Kate managed the initial brief, design phase and then the landscaping itself through until delivery, with the project
delivered on time and on budget to clients who say they are thrilled with the modern, striking planting and
impressive entranceway.
The special feature designed in corten steel is the entrance gate and fence. This mirrored the pattern in the garage door and added a unique feature. A back lit corten cut out of the house numbers adds a perfect addition for the entrance. The clients love this look coming into the property.
