A 1940’s Home Gets a New “Heart”

Our designers also included a small column of built-in shelving on the side of the cabinetry in the kitchen, facing the dining room, creating the perfect spot for our clients to display decorative trinkets. This little detail adds visual interest to the coffee station while providing our clients with an area they can customize year-round. The glass-front upper cabinets also act as a customizable display case, as we included LED backlighting on the inside – perfect for coffee cups, wine glasses, or decorative glassware. Our Long Island studio used a bright, neutral palette to create a cohesive ambiance in this beautiful lower level designed for play and entertainment. We used wallpapers, tiles, rugs, wooden accents, soft furnishings, and creative lighting to make it a fun, livable, sophisticated entertainment space for the whole family. This vibrant scullery is adjacent to the kitchen through a cased opening, and functions as a perfect spot for additional storage, wine storage, a coffee station, and much more. Pike choose a large wall of open bookcase style shelving to cover one wall and be a great spot to store fine china, bar ware, cookbooks, etc. However, it would be very simple to add some cabinet doors if desired by the homeowner with the way these were designed. A place where you are always guaranteed a seat.

How big should my home bar be?

The ideal style of your home bar will depend on your lifestyle and entertaining habits as well as the amount of available space. If big groups come round regularly then you should consider dedicating a part of your living room or basement to a larger seating area – complete with a bar table, bar stools and wet bar section – to keep everyone suitably comfortable and merry. If TV is essential, check if there is a wall nearby that’s a big enough to mount it on without restricting anyone’s view. A key feature of home bar ideas is the storage – gleaming wine racks and low-lit glass shelves. Make sure you can afford these little delights after you have built the basic structure.
