Reico Kitchen & Bath
Designed by Darcie Duncan of Reico Kitchen & Bath in Salem, VA in collaboration with Danny Clinevell, this kitchen remodeling project features a transitional style inspired design. The kitchen features Ultracraft Cabinetry in the door style Clemont in a true mixture of two finishes, a Grey Opal paired with a Bright White finish is mixed throughout the entire design. Kitchen countertops and backsplash are Silestone in the color Calacatta Gold, complemented by a Kohler Vault sink and Kohler Simplice Faucet. Appliances were provided by others.
The laundry remodel features Merillat Classic cabinets in the Portrait door style in a Cotton finish.
“I love the Grey Opal textured cabinets that we incorporated on the wall section,” said Darcie. “They add character and interest while still keeping the kitchen light and bright, a subtle change from the all-white that we do so often. The full-height quartz backsplash and waterfall edge details make this kitchen feel luxurious.”
Said the client, “The deep drawers and cabinets have added an amazing amount of storage space!”

Located directly across from Knight Park in Collingswood, this Grand Center Hall Colonial home had been in the same family since it’s construction in 1875. While it was in great condition when the new owners purchased the home in 2018, there was much room for some fresh life for a new young family.
Through a series of additions in the mid-1900’s, the original kitchen had been relocated to a long and narrow space at the back of the house, with a small powder and laundry room. In place of the kitchen was a small guest room that was mainly used as a play area for the kids.
The main purview of the renovation was to restore the kitchen to its original location and open it up to the living room to allow for a larger and brighter space. That left the previous kitchen space free to be converted to a full-size laundry and mud room, complete with a new rear entry space. Lastly one of the four bedrooms upstairs was reduced to make room for a new ensuite owners’ bathroom to compliment the only other full bathroom in the house.
With bright colors and plenty of large original windows, the new layout allows for a more connected and open living flow while also greatly improving the functionality of each space, making the home ready for its next chapter and generations to come.

DESIGN BRIEF
“A family home to be lived in not just looked at” placed functionality as main priority in the
extensive renovation of this coastal holiday home.
Existing layout featured:
– Inadequate bench space in the cooking zone
– An impractical and overly large walk in pantry
– Torturous angles in the design of the house made work zones cramped with a frenetic aesthetic at odds
with the linear skylights creating disharmony and an unbalanced feel to the entire space.
– Unappealing seating zones, not utilising the amazing view or north face space
WISH LIST
– Comfortable retreat for two people and extend family, with space for multiple cooks to work in the kitchen together or to a functional work zone for a couple.
DESIGN SOLUTION
– Removal of awkward angle walls creating more space for a larger kitchen
– External angles which couldn’t be modified are hidden, creating a rational, serene space where the skylights run parallel to walls and fittings.
NEW KITCHEN FEATURES
– A highly functional layout with well-defined and spacious cooking, preparing and storage zones.
– Generous bench space around cooktop and sink provide great workability in a small space
– An inviting island bench for relaxing, working and entertaining for one or many cooks
– A light filled interior with ocean views from several vantage points in the kitchen
– An appliance/pantry with sliding for easy access to plentiful storage and hidden appliance use to
keep the kitchen streamlined and easy to keep tidy.
– A light filled interior with ocean views from several vantage points in the kitchen
– Refined aesthetics which welcomes, relax and allows for individuality with warm timber open shelves curate collections that make the space feel like it’s a home always on holidays.
