Putting cabinetry along the back wall of our Condo project would have looked clumsy butted up against the window. Instead we made this otherwise awkward corner shine with a striking marble splash back to the ceiling. Keeping the upper cabinets white (which keeps the space open and spacious) adding a splash of colour below and hint of timber and brass means that this small kitchen is not small on style.

This 1956 John Calder Mackay home had been poorly renovated in years past. We kept the 1400 sqft footprint of the home, but re-oriented and re-imagined the bland white kitchen to a midcentury olive green kitchen that opened up the sight lines to the wall of glass facing the rear yard. We chose materials that felt authentic and appropriate for the house: handmade glazed ceramics, bricks inspired by the California coast, natural white oaks heavy in grain, and honed marbles in complementary hues to the earth tones we peppered throughout the hard and soft finishes. This project was featured in the Wall Street Journal in April 2022.

One of three projects within a converted factory building in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. The original structure, dating from 1911, has an oak post and beam frame with a brick exterior. Each apartment has a different relationship with the structural grid, often creating challenges and opportunities at the same time. The Wade Apartment required a complete remodeling of the kitchen, the addition of a second bedroom and new closets in two other spaces. The new kitchen pivots around a central oak column that was exposed in opening the space to the living room. A floating ceiling defines the kitchen space, while reaching out into the apartment. Finishes are kept to a crisp palette of whites, with Carrara marble counters and a natural finish for the oak column and flooring. www.archphoto.com

El reducido espacio del apartamento requería integrar la cocina en el salón. Por lo que se diseñó una cocina que tuviera un toque elegante y sofisticado. La encimera y el entrepaño se hiceron de marmol artificial con vetas en tonos cobre. Los muebles en color negro al igual que el grifo, y los electrodomésticos en acero inoxidable. Estos tonos neutros combinados con la madera de puertas y suelo consiguen elevar la categoría de esta cocina de dimensiones tan reducidas.
