In south Seattle, a tiny backyard garden needed a makeover to add usability and create a sitting area for entertaining. Raised garden beds for edible plants provide the transition between the existing deck and new patio below, eliminating the need for a railing. A firepit provides the focal point for the new patio. Angles create drama and direct flow to the steel stairs and gate. Installed June, 2014.

Nestled within the Pennines, it’s hard to believe this idyllic country garden was once a public toilet. Demolished a few years ago, the land had been left neglected and was in serious need of refurbishment.
We were asked to create a contemporary cottage garden, which was still in keeping with the rustic, rural architecture surrounding.
We achieved this by adopting a heritage colour scheme. Foxgloves, allium and delphinium add subtle splashes of purple to the luscious flower borders.
The stone patio and paths compliment the traditional oak decking and raised vegetables beds, while also adding texture. The addition of bright pots and painted lattice fence enhance this vibrant space as well as making interesting features.
This once disused plot has now been transformed into a tranquil garden, which is modern yet perfectly harmonising with the surrounding cottages.

A fountain of strawberries nestles above the herbs, freeing them from disease as they hang over the rim of the pot.

Elizabeth Leonard- The home owner wanted to squeeze in a veggie garden without sacrificing too much of her yard where her children play, as well as securing the garden from the local deer population. We succeeded in providing an aesthetically pleasing garden that produced enough for this small family, by using the space she had effectively. The deer fencing blends into the environment while securing her harvest . All while staying within her budget.

Do we need to speak to any other benefit of Western Redbud in early spring? These blooms are pollinator magnets - and delicious! As leaves fill in, they are a nearly translucent lime to apple green, allowing just the right amount of sun to break through the canopy.

After completion: Flagstone patio planted with a mixture of thyme varieties and irrigated with subsurface drip throughout creates an inviting space for entertaining. Raised beds built from redwood are planted with a mixture of cool-season vegetable crops. An espalier Meyer lemon will eventually cover the bare wall space. Boarder plantings consist of perennials, California natives, and Mediterranean shrubs.

Our homeowners were looking for a garden where they could sit by the fire, grow vegetable and hear the sound of water. Their home was new construction in a modern farmhouse style. We used gravel and concrete as paving. Board formed concrete firepit keeps it feeling modern. The vegetable beds supply season vegetables and herbs.
