Dallas Long Distance Master Bath Remodel
Dallas Long Distance Master Bath Remodel
K. Rue Designs, LLCK. Rue Designs, LLC
Sweet little country cottage, this home was built in the 1930's in Dallas, Texas. The master bathroom shown in the before photo was extremely small, unappealing, and did not utilize the best space. With the K. Rue new design, a larger shower was created and a major update to the cabinetry was involved. Trying to eliminate constant distractions and interruptions, white and gray were the key colors in the bathroom to make a fluid statement. The small Carrara marble mosaic used on the floor was carried into the shower floor for a consistent rhythm. For an emphasized country cottage look, these 4x10 gray subway ceramic tiles add a slight rough and handmade look to the walls with an intentionally thick grout line. The cabinetry was purchased as one unit to appear as a furniture piece with built-in lavatories and faucets. Gray walls add a great accent to the almost all-white bathroom for depth and drama. Our client living in Dallas TX was referred to the K. Rue team through another client. We LOVE referrals and would be glad to help your friends or family with their design needs.

We met these clients through a referral from a previous client. We renovated several rooms in their traditional-style farmhouse in Abington. The kitchen is farmhouse chic, with white cabinetry, black granite counters, Carrara marble subway tile backsplash, and a beverage center. The large island, with its white quartz counter, is multi-functional, with seating for five at the counter and a bench on the end with more seating, a microwave door, a prep sink and a large area for prep work, and loads of storage. The kitchen includes a large sitting area with a corner fireplace and wall mounted television. The multi-purpose mud room has custom built lockers for coats, shoes and bags, a built-in desk and shelving, and even space for kids to play! All three bathrooms use black and white in varied materials to create clean, classic spaces. RUDLOFF Custom Builders has won Best of Houzz for Customer Service in 2014, 2015 2016 and 2017. We also were voted Best of Design in 2016, 2017 and 2018, which only 2% of professionals receive. Rudloff Custom Builders has been featured on Houzz in their Kitchen of the Week, What to Know About Using Reclaimed Wood in the Kitchen as well as included in their Bathroom WorkBook article. This tile accent wall was created using large format, stacked stone, tile and tobacco sticks. The dimensions of the tile and existing wall presented a challenge. Two tiles would cover all but 3" of the wall width. Rather than fill in with such a small piece of tile we decided to frame each side with a 1-1/2" width of wood it wood. The wood also needed to be 3/8" thick to match the thickness of the tile. You won't find those dimensions at a lumber yard, so we visited our local source for reclaimed materials. They had tobacco sticks which come in the odd sizes we wanted. The aged finish of the tobacco sticks was the perfect compliment to the vanity and the Industrial style light fixture. Sometimes the solution to a functional design dilemma also delivers extraordinary aesthetic results. The lighting in this bath is carefully layered. Recessed ceiling lights and the vanity mirror with LED backlighting are controlled by dimmer switches. The vanity light is fitted with Edison style bulbs which shed a warmer, softer level of light.
