An existing raised bed out of brick surrounding a tree was dismantled and this one was built of existing flagstone and architectural decor. It is planted and surrounded by spring perennials and groundcover. More plants were added later.
Red Fox Forestry
A dry creek in this forest backyard was the solution to a recurring drainage problem. The dry creek was created with river rock and lined with cedar trees found on the client's property. The edges were planted with native ontario plants including ferns and sedges.

Ivy & Bloom
An under-utilised corner of the garden was transformed into a romantic apiary, or bee-yard, featuring brightly painted hives and vintage furniture. The pebbles are a practical surface for working on the hives and retain water for the plants. Plants selected are a mix of bee-friendly perennials, herbs and vegetables, including dahlia, salvia leucanthe, anenome japonica and dianthus, buckwheat, blue kale, rhubarb, and silver lemon thyme. Woolly thyme, festuca coxii and purple alyssum soften the pebbles.

This garden in Athens, GA needed a new lease of life. We re-designed and installed the backyard area, adding in the patio and pathway area to complement the existing structures. Shrubs and perennials were planted around to create a feeling of peaceful intimacy.

Montecito Landscape
In place of lawns, this area was transformed into a Flagstone courtyard with Fire Pit and large enough to accomodate a dining table. Colorful perennial flowers fill this garden with beauty and fragrance. Along the top of the wall are planted strawberries, herbs and roses for easy access from the kitchen door.
Sweet Smiling Landscapes
Edible landscaping encompasses much more then adding some veggie beds to one’s property. Creative layouts and material usage can incorporate year-round vegetable harvests in an aesthetically pleasing way. Perennial fruit trees, along with bushes and herbs, create a lush space full of beautiful, colors, textures, smells and tastes. Searching out and experimenting with different and rare varieties of edible plants keeps home gardens interesting. Edible landscaping gives access to food at its freshest, when it is most nutritious, and offers many more options than supermarket produce sections—also cutting down on transportation and packaging impacts. From edible estates to food forests, or simple integration of garden-based food production, Sweet Smiling Landscapes has the knowledge and experience to help home owners harvest their own bounty.
